It should be banned because of obesity and starving people are out in this world....
Eating contests are a disgrace... It is not entertainment at all.....
I think It should be banned.... |

Eating contests are the most stupid use of food in the world today, especially with millions of
underfed children everywhere, even in rich countries.
You can DIE if you overeat to win a prize, or for a two-minute stint on TV... |

Definitely. With starving people in this world, we can't profess to being so helpful and caring when
we're still wasting food in such a stupid manner. |
| |
|
| |
|
| |
|
|
It is a complete waste of food, and really it's just disgusting, not entertaining at all. |
| |
|

It encourages people to eat more to the extreme of becoming obese.. |
| |

They cause people to over eat- It is bad for your digestive system. |

I agree. They should ban all food eating contests. What is the purpose of it? If you think about it,
it is just a bunch of nonsense. It is nasty and it is dangerous. Nothing is grosser that watching
some overweight person cram food into their mouth. It is also healthy because the people do not take
the time to chew up the food properly and they could damage their esophagus or stomach. For example,
there are some Japanese people who think that eating many hotdogs is fun. It is sick. I do not see
the fun in eating to make yourself sick. Therefore, I strongly believe that all food eating contests
should definitely be banned all around the world. |

Yes they should. Like Mackenzie said, food shouldn't be wasted when there are people who are in need
of it. It is a pointless activity, which has tragically cost this 34 year old man his life. It is a
shame that he was unaware of the dangers of consuming large quantities of food.
There is no point in holding and participating in dangerous competitions such as these. Anyone who
considers holding such an event, such as people who may use it for a fundraising event, should think
about the dangers that it could bring and focus on something more sensible. |

Eating contests should certainly be banned. What occurred to 34 year old Adam Deeley of Birmingham
is tragic and should serve as a stark warning to people who would consider taking part in eating
contests, as well as to organizers of these events. I think that simple common sense would suggest
that eating so much food and in such a short period of time is unhealthy and potentially fatal. Not
only are you likely to get ill from eating so much, but there is also a risk of choking. This is
true of cakes, but also of hot dog eating contests, which are very popular in some parts of the
world.
There is another reason why eating contests should be banned and this one has less to do with health
and more to do with ethics. Millions of people around the world live under the shadow of starvation.
As such, it seems really excessive and even immoral for wealthier societies to waste food in this
manner, when others would be so happy to receive it, simply for survival. |

Just dont join them if you think their bad its not like they're manditory... I personally like them
because i love food |

|

There should be a contest to see who can eat the most uberlovely |
| |
|
| |
|
| |
|

Bigger people are going to eat whether you want them to or not...they choose when they eat and what
they eat..no one else...so eating contests shouldnt be banned because its someones choice just like
if you choose NOT to participate |

First of all its entertainment and entertainment is to be enjoyed not criticized and furthermore not
that many eating contests really go on! |
| |
|
| |
|
| |
|
|
It is one's own responsibility to regulate how much he or she eats. Furthermore, all competitors and
only them claim responsibility for their eating, and it is their decision whether or not they want
to partake in the competition and/or eat lots. |
| |
|
| |
|
| |
|
|
Who would enforce such a ban? Are you suggesting the federal government should regulate the food
intake of individuals? There is no other entity that could uphold a ban on eating contests and this
falls well outside of the constitutional authority of the U.S..... So far. |
| |
|
| |
|
| |
|
|
Eating contests don't need to be banned there at your own risk |
| |
|
| |
|
| |
|
|
Eating contests make people feel pleasure because they make them full. Also, eating contests make
people feel good when they win. Even if they lose,, they still ate a lot, so they feel very
comfortable and happy. |

|

|

This should be left up to the individual. People make decisions all the time about bad habits. And
there are plenty of contests that involve what's bad for us. Too much alcohol, for instance. But
people can think for themselves, and it should be the hope that they'll make good choices. |
| |
|

|

I just think there should be a weight limit.
You must be 60 pounds, at least five and a half feet tall, over the age of 18 and have no home. |

It's not really clear he died from the cake-eating contest. He died from choking on his food. People
choke on their food and die all the time. It just so happened that this person did it during a
cake-eating contest.
Your argument about the frivolity of using food for contests could just as well be spun in different
ways. For example, if you are arguing that it is wrong for us to indulge ourselves in non-survival
related activities while others are struggling to survive, you could just as well say that no one
should experience any kind of entertainment such as watching films or playing computer games.
Rather, they should save the money instead and send it to Africa.
Also, as mothers often say to their children when they are reluctant to eat all their food, just
think of those starving people in Africa who don't have enough food. The act of consuming food
rather than letting it be wasted is actually a kind of spiritual homage to the starving hordes of
Africa. In the case of this cake-eating contest, the food was left over at the end of a party. So,
if it had not been consumed, it would have been wasted. Surely you don't seriously believe the cakes
would have been wrapped up and sent to Africa, remaining fresh enough to be eaten till they arrived?
Perhaps the dead man was mindful of what his mother told him when he was a child and wanted to eat
up all the food in homage to the starving.
Eating vast quantities of food in a short space of time may even be beneficial for health.
Dietitians sometimes talk of the "starvation gene" - a metabolic process that kicks in once a person
experiences extreme hunger, causing the body to use energy more efficiently. This process continues
long after the hunger has been satisfied. It can make it very difficult for some people to lose
weight because their body is permanently running in starvation mode, using energy ultra-efficiently.
It's possible that eating vast quantities of food quickly will have the opposite effect, causing the
body's metabolism to speed up and energy to be burned more quickly. If activated, this process would
help a person remain slim and healthy throughout their life. |
