Seniors Should Give Up Their Licenses
Should seniors give up their licenses at 65 or above? (survey purposes) (yes or no)?

Senior citizens should be retested more often than younger drivers because of their abilities deteriorating at an increasing rate as they age.

Instead license renewals every five years, those over 60 who haven't had an accident should have to retest every three years (at lower cost, to account for having to do it more often). Those who have had an accident or are over 70 should have to retest annually. And any who fail their test lose their license permanently.

Driving is not a right, it's a privilege, and if someone is not medically fit, he shouldn't have a license. A senior citizen's mobility does not supercede the life of a nine year old kid crossing the street.

Seniors really should not be out on the road. There have been way too many times that they could have caused accidents than not. They drive very slow which you would think would be safe but it is not. Especially when someone in a rush is behind them. There should be some sort of transport for them after their glasses get so thick or they drive so slow. They need to be evaluated yearly after the age of 65.

I agree with the sentiment here but would go further to say anyone who knows they can't drive SHOULDNT drive... Old people, senile people, drunk people what have you

Do senile people know they can't drive? Just a glib remark by the way, not a serious point.

No.
Only the incompetent drivers should.
Not all old persons are incompetent.

When YOU are a senior, which really is not very old anymore, and you are a fantastic driver, you wont want to give up your license and become a burden and dependent on others to take you where you need to go.

No, but they should have to take the driving test more often. And not just the written one.

No, just make them take a driving test, some can and others can't drive.

Seniors steadily stop driving anyway, as they grow less able to drive they also generally drive slower. Their risk is negligible, it would be heavyhanded to institute such a measure.

You are right... but isn't the reason for old people to stop driving more of a matter of convenience to the young than removing risk on the road? senior citizen carpool would seem like some future expectation for government liberty

If and when they no longer have the ability to drive safely. Not at some arbitrary age. But the same goes for any body.

I feel that there should be a test after 65 to make sure they able to drive...seeing, hearing, ect. But I agree that they are more experienced and they shouldn't just lose there licenses at 65.

Perhaps a test, but not a retest of the original one. The reason is that after 40 years at least of driving everyone has picked up habits which don't quite comply with regulations. I guarantee that almost everyone who has been driving for more than 5 years would fail a retest without significant retraining. I've been driving for 6 months (no crashes yet) and would struggle.

Don't be ridiculous, the accidents are 95% caused by younger people, either drinking, on drugs or talking on mobiles.

Absolutely not. Older people have more experience.
