The sooner Americans can sort out their energy needs the better it will be for us Brits, Cheers! |

Sounds like a good idea and I am FOR IT 100%, however, it will not happen. Why? Because it is not
profitable to do so. Profitable for the American people yes, but not for the Oil tycoons; American
and Middle Eastern alike. He who controls the Oil, controls the money. He who controls the money,
has the power. Period!
As long as we have politicians in bed with big Oil and big business we will not see positive
change.
We are in too deep a debt to do anything on our own anymore. This once self-sufficient nation has
been pimped out for far too long now. The only way to get this country back is to take it back by
force. Who needs to do that? We the people do. But are we? No. Because any true resistance we
develop that threatens our government will be squashed. So, people are afraid. What to do?
Anyway, I agree with drilling here. We have untapped resources that need to be tapped. In fact, we
have tapped resources that need to be used setting in the Gulf of Mexico right now. Been that way
since the 1970's. I have yet to receive a clear answer as to why we are not using them. |

Clearly, you can't do grade three math.
The US government's estimates say Alaska has between 5.7 and 16 billion barrels of oil, a mean of
10.4 billion barrels. I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and go with the high estimate: 16
billion barrels. The US uses 21 million barrels of oil per day. Again I'll be generous and assume
Americans cut back to half as much, a very unrealistic number.
Pubs.usgs.gov/fs/fs-0028-01/fs-0028-01.htm
So even allowing for the most wildly optimistic numbers, that means 16,000,000,000 barrels divided
by 10,500,000 barrels per day is 1,524 days, or a little over 4 years.
Using more realistic numbers, 10.5 billion barrels at 21 million barrels per day (assuming the US
doesn't increase its use), that means 495 days worth of oil, or one year and four months of
the stuff. As well, it will be more than ten years before any of that oil can be extracted
from the ground.
Ending foreign dependency? Hardly. You look like a heroin junkie scrounging around on a pile
of used needles hoping to find any that still have heroin in them, and will inject one if you find
it. You're trying to continue the dependency, not end it. |

You should sort out your energy consumption mess first, before looking at extracting more of it. |
