Don't Ask Don't Tell Could Be Abused
With only gay people not telling, people could know who is gay, by deduction. For Don't Ask, Don't Tell to truly work, hetero's would have to keep still also, meaning they would not be able to talk about their kids or wives. Don't Ask Don't Tell is flawed because it fetters gay people.. The solution is for gay people to be free to say what they want to about their orientation and be left alone. Don't Ask Don't, Tell makes it appear natural to abuse gay people if you know they are gay

As a veteran, I have no problem with gays in the military. Anyone who thinks there are not already gays in the military, even with the ban, is an idiot. Rescinding the policy would make no difference.

Over 12,000 American patriots have been discharged from service on the ‘don't ask don't tell’ policy. It's not a question of 'could be' it is a matter of how much. Dan Choi is the most recent or at least most famous recent discharge. Here is a man who served with excellence and distinction, and he has discharged from the military because he told the truth.

It's not only sad that this occured, but it makes me furious. Employers are not allowed to discriminate, but the US Armed Forces can discharge someone based on sexual orientation. It seems illogical that laws are made against discrimination in civilian careers, but for those who choose to serve their country, being gay is enough to get them booted right out. I don't know much about the "don't ask, don't tell" policy. Was it initially created to protect homosexual soldiers from gay bashing from soldiers who were homophobic? It doesn't seem fair or legal to me, but I really don't know anything more about it than what the words suggest.

For this reason and others it is why no other country in the western world still has the policy enacted. The policy allows for the possibility of bullying, serious discrimination and blackmail. Not only does the policy has a negative effect on gays but also the entrie military. I have heard of brilliant soldiers being thrown out of the military when they have peformed an amazing service but also soldiers who speak Arabic. Throwing out soldiers with these kind of abilities is ludricuous. The policy should be removed as soon as possible and America should keep in step with the rest of the western world.
