What I am referring to is when 'fighting dogs' are taken away from their owners or banned from existing because they are 'fighting dogs'. (The dogs I am talking about are breeds like Pit Bulls, Neapolitan Mastiffs, Akitas, Bull Terriers... The list could go on.) Licenses are a great idea... In fact I would be in favour of having to have a license to own any kind of dog. Hmm... That wouldn't be a bad debate...

All dogs should be given a fair chance. I have a American Staffordshire Terrier that is 9 months. He gets alone with kids really well. Animals such as other dogs is hit and miss. He might like one and not like another. But that is the breed he is. "Pit Bulls" are not suppose to be human aggressive if they are that isn't breed standard and that dog should be put down b/c he isn't a sable dog. But if the "pit bull" is dog aggressive that is normal and can be controlled by simply not letting it off the leash with other dogs or not being around other dogs.

No they shouldn't. The problem is the cretinous owners who cause them to behave the way they do.
Save the dogs, cull the irresponsible owners!

I agree also. The dog..lets say a pitbull in this case, should not be judged because historically they have been known to be fighting dogs. Any breed of dog can be trained to behave in a non violent way. The only reason why some dogs are Vicious is because there owner is irresponsible and is unable to control there anxiety around dogs. These types of owners are adopting the wrong attitude towards dogs therefore promoting the bad behaviour of the dog whatever breed. The owner needs to gain the respect of the dog and become the pack leader in order to handle a dog well.

Dog Fights should be banned since this is a kind of cruelty to animals. A license to have a pet is also a good idea so that the owner is going to be responsible.

Dog fighting is outlawed in almost all industrialized nations, so are drugs. To make something illegal will not stop people from engaging in the act. If you get rid of the fighting breeds, not killing them but stopping them from breeding there would be no problem.

I strongly agree i have all sorts of dogs that r classified as dangerous but it depends on the retarded owner how the dog should act and that is abuse to animals in my opinion

I agree. A lot of people train pitbulls to be mean dogs. That's where they get their rep. Not all pitbulls are mean. If the owner keeps them under control they shouldn't be treated any differently.

I agree with Fromwithin, it is the Owners job to make the right decision in even owning that dog, and if it is a "dangerous" dog, they should train it, or just keep it safe and "locked" up so it won't cause any danger.

I agree. If the pet owner is responsible, and trains the dog... No matter the breed... There should be no problems. I have a Dalmation-sharp pei mix, and she loves kids, and is a great dog.

Clearly, dogs like pitbulls are not safe enough for the common people to own. They are greatly more vicious than other dogs and are threats to human life. I totally agree that animals are often mistreated, but these dogs are hazards. For example, there have been several killings of innocent children in Toronto, Canada alone. These leave families in misery and must be stopped.
Every action we take plays a role in how good or bad our world is. Banning violent breeds of dogs would be something advantageous for the world.

Dogs are merely bred as human pets (without humans they would not exist in their present form) and to breed dogs that are inherently violent seems like a stupid idea unless of course you are Michael Vick

I have no idea who Michael Vick is, but I can think certainly of some reasons why one would want to own one of the dogs I'm referring to. These dogs, however, are NOT, as you say, 'inherently violent'; what you are demonstrating is a form of ignorance that is rather common.

ANY dog can be violent, just as ANY dog can be calm, stable and submissive. It all depends on the owner, whether that owner likes it or not.

Of course they should be treated differently.. Breeds are different and need to be accommodated differently.

As for fighting dogs, just ban them .. Cull them all off and if you really want a pet choose one that has not been specifically bred to kill, maim, tear and think attack... That's all they are..

How many more kids need to die before these dumb inbred animals with their dumb inbred owners are wiped out, they serve no purpose... Neuter, destroy, remove them period..

ANY dog can be stable, peaceful and calm, whatever breed it is. What gives us as humans the right to categories in this dramatic sense, when WE created the breed, WE own it and WE care for them; and yet you are proposing that the dogs are to blame for what they are! What a ridiculously nonsensical idea!

Only two-hundred-and-three dog attacks on children have EVER been recorded - it is a regular misconception exercised that these events happen everyday. Most people have no idea what they're talking about, as these statistics are little-known and the media helps to seriously overblow the facts so that the truth is remarkably rare. Also, many people brand things like Staffordshire Bull Terriers and English Bulldogs with the names 'fighting dogs' or 'aggressive dogs', when actually they have no idea what they're talking about. These breeds are, in fact, caring and loyal family pets and would never halm a person. Despite this, I know of many cases where such breeds have been removed from the guardianship of their owners when they hadn't even attacked anyone. The police are so careful to prevent the dogs acting aggressively by stereotyping, but they are not helping in the slightest. 
What is needed is responsible ownership, and for people to actually take accountability for the behaviour of their pet, and not blame it on the breed, which is the option for the lazy and inept amongst us.
