Yes Dogs are better than cats. This is not a subjective debate, it is a well known fact that dogs surpass cats in greatness by far. If you want a pet equivalent to a bag of potatoes, go ahead and buy a cat. But if your looking for a little bit more, buy a dog. I think goldfish are better pets than cats.

Dogs are better because a cat can't protect you as well as a dog can if someone breaks in your house

Never really got cats. Every time I look a cat in the eyes I get confused for some reason. Maybe I'm part Egyptian, who knows. I like dogs because they show more emotion.

Don't like cats, no loyalty - they only stick around for the free food and shelter. Dogs on the other hand are devoted and loyal. I laughed at the comment on the other side saying cats are friendlier than dogs - what?

I like both but dogs are friendlier, will protect life and property, and are more loyal, yet cats kill mice; overall dogs win.

Cats can be compared to a pile rope. They do nothing! Dogs on the other hand are just way better! But that's just my opinion.

I prefer cats, had a cat when i was younger and felt uncomfortable around dogs, especially when they jump at me.

I like dogs and cats but the first dog i owned was a pain in the u-know-wat, i couldn't get her potty trained and she ruined my parents carpet.. She chewed on everything even though i got her tons of toys and played with her all the time.. She kept jumping over the gate and evertime i had to pick her up from the pound it cost me 150-200.. I couldn't deal with having her depend on me.. I don't have kids and i see why.. But my sister and i saved this kitten because it was found half dead and infested with fleas and was skeletal and she has 2 already and i didn't have any pets so i took him in and now he's more my best friend than anything... He's very independent so i don't have to do much .. I didn't have to train him to be potty trained he learned on his own.. He carries toys around in his mouth and always purrs when i pick him up.. He comes when i call his name.. I let him out to play with the other cats and he always comes when i go back inside.. My cat loves kisses and hugs.. When i'm watching tv he likes to curl around my neck or in my lap.. When its late he cries that he wants to sleep and has to be touching me when i'm sleeping next to him.. My cat always does funny stuff to make me laugh.. My dog jus made me mad all the time..

I like both so don't take this as dog bashing, but.... 1) Cats don't make you go out to walk them in all sorts of weather, nor make you pick up their fresh steaming feces in the street. 2) Cats have more free will (which is precisely what cat-haters usually hate - the fact they won't take orders or kiss up to them). 3) Cats rarely attack you unprovoked, not true with dogs. 4) Cats are essentially never guilty of maiming or killing kids. Every town has at least one story of a dog that did just that. 5) Cats are cheaper to feed and maintain. 6) Cats help control mice and vermin in your house. Dogs don't unless your vermin are huge animals and they seldom are. 7) Cats seldom are loud. They don't screech without end at your guests. They don't make you jump with a bark. 8) Cats have more grace and beauty. 9) Cats seldom smell as bad as dogs. And 10) Cats clean themselves daily and only rarely need a bath but dogs can get really filthy.

Anyway, I prefer cats, but it doesn't mean I don't like dogs.

 1) Dogs don't make you clean their litterbox and/or go all over the house when it's dirty. 2) That's not free will, cats are just using you for food and shelter, they have no loyalty. 3) I've never been attacked by a dog in my life, but my youngest daughter right now has a lovely set of scratches on her face from a cat. 4) Only because cats are physically incapable. That's like saying cat's didn't fly into the World Trade Center, that's why they're better than Islamic Terrorists. 5) Hardly, cat food is, pound for pound, more expensive than dog food. The only possible savings is from cats being relatively smaller than dogs and thus eating less. If that's your rationale, get a mouse, it's smaller still. 6) You've got vermin in your house? Sounds like you have bigger problems than cats. 7) Cats are OFTEN loud and complete attention-sluts who pester guests to be pet endlessly. 8) Purely subjective, I see them as lazy and annoying much of the time. 9) Oh, I've got a cat that would knock a buzzard off a sh*t-wagon. You know when the cat has used the litterbox because the smell completely permeates the house. 10) That leads to dander, which is the leading cause of pet-related allergies. Dogs get it washed off regularly, cats seldom do.

Sorry, not at all convincing.

Cats are more loving and friendlier than dogs...dogs and cats can be vicious, but we always hear about dogs biting children, and harming several humans

Not to a cat lover. And neither are much welcomed by gardeners.
Cats are better at climbing trees and jumping on dogs backs.
