Indeed success needs to be done, but not necessarily the success of efforts, we should also have opportunities to grasp the opportunity to appear and be good at。

Luck and opportunity opens the door for you so you can ply your hard work. You can possess the capability to do all the hard work there is, but if no one wants you to work for them, you are out in the cold--with all your unwanted and wasted abilities.

Luck and oppertunity are both good things, but it is not something to rely on. Hard work help give you the oppertunitys that are avalible to you.

Luck and opportunity are fleeting a good work ethic will carry you through all manner of problems. The real trick is to put in the hard work so that you are in a position to make your own luck.

Luck and opportunity will ultimately be squandered by lack of hard work.
Hard work is self-gratifying in the face of lack of luck and opportunity and often leads to luck and opportunity.

It can still be luck even when one does work hard for something.  There are times that two or more people are equally hard working and share the same qualifications, yet only one of them will advance if there is room for only one individual to move up to a better paying position.  That's just one example.  I agree with your basic comment though, Smito.  There are just times that luck does come into play, still hard work does at times as JSG points out, lead to luck and opportunity.

Of course, there are a small percentage of people who are truly lucky or so it seems to me.  Winning the lottery is an example of such luck.  There really is no hard work involved in buying a lottery ticket, so the winners of the lottery could be considered to be lucky.  This is not the usual outcome for those who do not try to put in the work necessary to improve their life and open the door to opportunity.  Most people who do work hard and look for opportunity do find it to be, again as JSG also said, "self-gratifying".  He is also right that simply luck alone is likely to be squandered.  For instance, kids who are just handed money and material possessions do not realize the value of those things and are less careful with their belongings at times than the kids who have worked (even doing some chores around the house) to earn their own money to spend.  When one puts out their own hard earned money, they have a better appreciation of what they spent the money on.

well my dear friend consider this: if there are two workers of equal qualifications and abilities who does the boss promote? In the very majority of cases, the one he likes more. That is a ability and in some cases hard work. The party boss may like the party boy more than the homosexual boy. They may be equal but in the end its the party boy being higher because of his ability to be on the same level as the boss. Its not luck at all.

Well i guess i better have you define luck. In my definition its the outside for that increases the chance of something happening to you and thus is a impossibility. I believe that if somebody wins the lottery its was purely chance of the draw. The person is no more lucky than any other. Now since may only one in every 10,000,000 people win any type of lottery a day that would make luck a rare trait. If it did exist. Now considering that that one person is now a millionaire without work doesnt make him any luckier than anyone else, it just means hes the one guy in the crowd who got shot randomly by the police officer. 
Those kids aren't lucky they're just in a wealthier family. I mean my family has gone from wealthy to poverty and back several times, either way I'm no better than anyone else. The kids lives are dictated by their parents. If the parents want to spend 10000 a year on alcohol then the kids get to deal with it. If the parent got a doctrine in medicine, the kid gets 10000 a year in allowance. No luck is in that. I do however think that you are making a stereotype. Ive always been handed a lot in life but i appreciate because that's what I've been taught by my parents. But yes i agree there are others that who don't seem to see the value in things anymore.

I could be wrong, but I sensed a bit of sarcasm when you addressed me.  I was not stating my opinion to invalidate your comment in any way.  I do see your points in the above comment.  I suppose that what one views as lucky may differ from what another individual views as lucky.  I would personally feel very lucky to win the lottery.  I do realize that, just as in gambling of any form, it is all about odds.  Still, for the one who wins, to me it seems like good fortune or good luck.  I agree with you about the promotion thing.  Yes, I suppose it is a matter of personality preference in many cases.  That is a very good point that you made.  Still, I view having a boss with a personality that is compatible to mine as a lucky thing.  As far as kids and how responsible they are, I did not mean to imply that all children will handle their money, possessions or responsibility in the same way.  Of course there are kids who are given a lot and who do recognize the value in it and, as is in your case, that is a result of the parents and how they teach the children.  There are, however, many parents that I have come across who seem to hand their kids material things in an attempt to "buy the love of their kids".   This type of parent is generally not the type of parent who showers their child with lots of time and attention.  I don't think that, without parents who are willing to spend the time to teach the values that your parents instilled in you, their children are likely to appreciate the value of things the way you do.

My comment after yours was only meant as a general comment and not aimed at what you wrote or to discredit what you wrote.  I recognize that you view luck differently than I do.  Many people view the same thing in different ways, but I do see your point and you did make valid points and state your opinion very well..  If you took offense in my comment, I assure you there was no reason to be offended aside from if you did not realize the way I intended the comment I wrote.

Opportunity is all around. Hard work capitalizes on those opportunities. Doing things that advance your own knowledge or vocation makes luck appear to be on your side.
