Death Penalty Should Be Brought Back To The UK
Who thinks it should be brought back into the UK and why?

I agree it would cut down overcrowding in our jails.

Yes, it has been shown that abolishing the Death Penalty has increased crime. To add to which the Police are hidebound by paperwork, there are not enough of them and the extra prisons so badly needed for the increase in criminals, promised by Nu Labour 11 years ago, have not transpired, so we have nowhere to put those who deserve to be incarcerated. The death penalty should IMHO be used only for child murderers, terrorists, and multiple slayings by gang leaders. DNA testing is 99% certain, so there should be no more innocents going to the gallows.

I am from the United States, which, as you may know, (in certain areas) we love the death penalty. Does it lower crime rates as Carl said? Maybe not. But the fact remains, that if you kill someone brutally, you no doubt deserve to be killed humanely. (my opinion, no facts)

Yes, I think so. Not just the UK, every country should have death penalty to punish those cruel murders and etc.

Carl's comment on the death penalty is completely right, in my opinion.
We have had the death penalty in the UK and some other countries still continue to use it, but crime is still a problem.
Killing people off for a crime they committed could cut down the numbers in prison, but by the time they are eventually killed, there is another load of criminals queuing up to get into the prisons with a death sentence hanging over their heads. This type of scenario happens in American prisons all the time; the end result being the same problem for which we apparently introduced the death penalty in the first place; to eradicate numbers in prisons.
The argument 'we haven't got enough prisons' is useless because we could just build more! We have more than enough land and money (despite what the government lead us on to believe) to build as many as wee need.
I think life should mean life in prison and prisons should be tougher with in-mates so that it doesn't become a youth club, which many prisons are starting to feel like. For example, in-mates should not be aloud to watch T.V or listen to a radio or have any type of contact with the outside world (apart from visits from family). This is because they have, or should have, lost their right to participate within our society. Meals should be basic and not made to particularly enjoy and there should, basically, just be no luxuries what-so-ever.
But a rightful move would be to remain with the programs set in place in prisons to get criminals back 'on-track' and realise there's more to life than crime. Criminals should be educated and have group discussions and counselling, if needed.
Things like this are positive moves for people involved with crime. Don't just kill them. How barbaric!!

Even law reform and judges state that the life sentence is too far
the only reason we don't lower it is because the government would lose in the next election
a lot of the time murderers honestly regret what they've done and its out of passion or anger that they murder

No. Firstly, the death penalty doesn't deter criminals. Shocking as it may seem, crime levels stayed around the same when Britain abolished the death penalty in the 60's. If capital punishment did deter criminals, we would've expected to see a rise in crime. But we didn't.

Secondly, capital punishment serves primarily as the states way of exacting revenge. Don't believe me? After any major murder in the U.K - especially if it is child-murder - there are always increased calls from the public to bring back the death penalty. To do so would be to induldge the public in their anger and vengeance, something horribly dangerous in a civilised society.

Thirdly, capital punishment leaves no room for mistakes. The court and jury system is falliable; what if we were to execute a man then realise later that he was in fact innocent? Remember the uproar about the shooting of Joan Charles de Meniezes - an innocent man who was thought to be a terrorist. This would be the kind of thing happening on a regular basis.
