Pearl was a known supporter of Israel's terrorism. If he had been a neutral or critical voice, he might have gotten out alive.

He brought his own death upon himself by supporting Israeli terrorism.

 When you're personal view may get you killed and chopped into 10 pieces and a you're knife shoved into you're decapitated head in the eye socket

And you're pregnant wife who needs you to raise the child who will grow up without his father

Then one may be inclined to perhaps take a different job
