Cow Tongue Taste Awesome And People Should Step Outside Their Cultural Box And Try It.
I know our western culture cannot get beyond the idea of eating a cow tongue even though our culture has convinced us its ok to eat Cow muscles (steak), tripe (cow stomach for soups) and Cow Intestines (southern eating), Cow livers. But it smells just like Pot Roast and taste like the most tender Pot Roast you ever ate. In Mexico and Mexican food trucks in the states, tacos are the common use for them. I made those last night, AWESOME!!!!.

Well I agree with you in spirit but I just don't like tongue in particular. I enjoy everything from tripe to brains to testicles, I just don't like the taste and texture of tongue. But I am on this side because, there are a lot of good parts outside of what is considered acceptable these days. Plus it is just wasteful not to use the entire animal. Most people would be shocked how much ends up getting thrown away when a cow is slaughtered simply because there is no market for it.

 I agree a lot of cow is wasted in this country. But its changing because many immigrants will buy what is dicarded for their international supermarkets. Thats how I buy Goat. Its something just not sold in most American supermarkets even though goat is the most eaten livestock in world.

Most Jewish delicatessens serve thinly sliced tongue meat piled high on a sandwich and it's very good.

Brisket is also a very tasty meat.

I'm half Irish but I love spicy foods such as the spicy Mexican soup called Menudo which is hominy and beef tripe. Most Mexican restaurants serve it on Sunday mornings as a cure for a hangover.

Life is too short not to try every type of food at least once.

I've had cow tongue and agree, but one must get use to the texture a bit if it is not ground up.

 Normally you don't ground it up. You cut them into thin slices.

I have no problem in giving it a try, I bet I probably have in one form or another. As it is served in Mexican dishes I could have, but probably I have eaten the bastardized version.

What I disagree with is your misplaced "ouside their cultural box" comment". Not being emotional, just correcting you. The fact is if us Brits actually stuck more to our traditional "cultural box" instead of encompassing so many other cultures' dishes we would all be eating more things like tongue. In the last 50 years or so our food has become more varied so our regular dishes include Indian, chinese, Thia, italian etc - whereas traditionally we ate foods such as tripe, offal, luncheon tongue, brawn, faggots etc etc. Stuff made up of all parts of the animal such as, brains, lungs, cheeks, rectum, tongue, stomach - infact nothing ever used to go to waste.

Today we are too fussy, but it is not cultural.

 Food is all about culture. I don't know what planet you are from. Its one key element that defines culture. And much of the foods you eat from other countries brought to the west are often toned down for American palet. As one Chinese restaurant owner told me, a lot of the food they serve in America is not really eaten on a daily basis in China. In America, an American can frown upon eating something like a tongue but with a strait face tell you how wonderful chitterlings (pig intestines) are. Thats culture.

I think you are being over sensitive on this harmless debate.
Or maybe because the debate is coming from me.

What are you talking about? Step out of your cultural box? I eat scrapple all the time. Do you know what is in scrapple? There are things in it that are worse than a tounge.

I have had cow tongue only once and the taste was not memorable. However from the following facts I can confidently deduce that cow tongue does not taste awesome:

Although a steak can taste mighty good I would not claim that any cut from the cow or any part of the cow has an awesome taste. So I can establish that the cow is not an animal of great taste and to further this idea I will allege that any form of meat from any animal whether it be an eye, tongue, or testicle will not produce an "awesome" taste.

Awesome tastes are sugary, savory, palatable, sapid, rich and nectarous and sweet. Like cheesecake.

But I agree that people should step outside of their cultural proclivity for foods.

 Verum,

As much as I like strawberry cheesecake, I wouldn't want to have it for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

Eventually, I would kill for a chicken-fried steak with greasy hash-brown potatoes both smothered with a sausage milk gravy, 4 eggs over easy and biscuits.

Then why do cows just eat grass? You'd think they'd be all like "wow, I want to try pizza, or curry, or caviar", but no, their tastebuds long for simple grass, and they don't even mind if it's got a little of their poo on it. Seems to me their tongues have pretty lame and basic taste, if not outright horrible.

Flies probably have better taste than cows, at least they like ripe fruit and sweet desserts as well as the other gross or boring things they eat.

Great point!!!

I was watching a show on DIRECTV called "Kill It, Skin It, Eat It" which is filmed in England. They selected 6 novices to take an animal through the entire process and they showed how to prepare tongue and various other cuts of meat.
