| Corn-derived Products Have Overrun The US Food Industry And Carry A Large Share Of The Blame For Health Problems Like Obesity And Diabetes |
| I'm not saying this to let personal responsibility off the hook. You still are responsible too. But check out the book "The Omnivore's Dilemma" by Michael Pollan. It reviews the history and growth of the corn industry and how it parlayed into almost everything we eat. Through mass spectrometer they can identify the atoms originating via corn farming. In a McDonald's meal this much is traced to corn: The soda 100%, milk shake 78%, chicken nuggets 56%, cheeseburger 52%, fries 23%. Remember animals are fed corn, and corn is split into additives and such. |

Yep, this argument isn't knew to me. Just like eating tuna passes on mercury. |

Just added explanation to what I started above. High fructose corn syrup came onto the market in
the 1980s and that statistically correlated to the great spike in diabetes and obesity, especially
among kids. And I listed fries above and you may wonder how a potato product is 23% corn. Well
it's fried in the oil, plus it might be breaded, or sprayed with some sort of preservative or flavor
enhancer, all of which is corn derived. Furthermore it's downright infuriating to hear the tricks
they've pulled with corn. I have a pear balsamic vinegar I like and it says it has "natural pear
flavor". According to the book if it were simply pear it would say pear. "natural ____ flavor"
means they used corn (which hey is a natural product) and managed to replicate some other flavor
using corn. Since it's natural, and it tastes like pear, they can call it natural pear flavoring on
the label. BOGUS! |
