Closer (British) Ties With Europe Is A Good Thing
Whats your opinion? Do you think that Britain should become increasingly more involved with Europe or do you think that we should cut all ties?

There's the crux of the matter.. For the most part English people think 'us and Europe' rather than "we are European"

Britain don't co-operate on immigration, they refuse to link up with the schengen agreement., national security remains national and what idea of sovereignty is mentioned ? That all smacks of bigotry without any real understanding or concept of how the EU works within all it's pillars ..

One thing is for sure, I'm tired of paying someone to change pounds in to Euro with commission and exchange rate profits, so I can spend money in another EU country, it is ridiculous, then you have to pay to have it changed back.. Who benefits there.. Not the British people..

There is no future for Britain outside of the European Union. Continuing to maintain a semi-detached relationship with it diminishes our influence within it.

Britain's lingering sentimental ties to the United States should be severed. The delusions of the "special relationship" should be cast aside. It should be clear from the experience of the last few years that American values are alien to our own; that America is a rogue state, a danger to world peace, and, in its irresponsible approach to the problem of global warming, a threat to the entire planet.

The European Union should become a countervailing force to American power and Britain should assist it in that objective.

If Britain wants to maintain the strength of the pound in relation to the Euro, I think that close involvement politically and economically is essential.
I don't really think Britain could support itself without foreign trading and banking (no country really could) so for the country to isolate itself from European affairs is economic suicide.

Im not a Brit so you probably dont care what I think. But grandfathers grandfather was born in Ireland with ancestry in Wales. So, I consider Great Britain to be part of my family. And I consider the US and Britain to be family so I will voice my opinion.
I would not like to see Britain get any closer to the EU. You have stood a sovereign nation for many centuries. Why throw that away now.

I think that Britain should cooperate with the European Union on issues of trade, immigration, national security and the movement of people in general, but it should reject further integration and must continue to maintain its sovereignty in most financial matters. Britain has always been somewhat apart from continental Europe, not just due to its geography, but also for cultural reasons.

Further European integration would not be to the UK's advantage. Some europhile British politicians have argued that further intregration would increase Britain's power in pan-European affairs. They are wrong about this. Europe's two main powers are France and Germany, and Britain is at most a third wheel. For both geographic and economic reasons (namely, the common currency and stronger trade ties), the Franco-German balance of power will continue in Europe.

Britain's real strength, however, is its position as an unofficial "mediator" between the US and the EU and the UK remains a power on the international stage, thanks to this special relationship with the Americans, but also because it still has ties to, and interests in a range of commonwealth countries. Giving up any more of its sovereignty to Brussels would not make sense, if we consider the UK's foreign policy interests.
