Yes.
Classical music, is so beautifully structured, and perfection for the ears. |

Whether you prefer classical music or more trendy, folk rock punk country or heavy metal to list
just a few, Classical music is much more diverse and technically far superior. |

It is so scary to see how many non-music theory debators are on this website. To even say heavy
metal and classical music in the same breathe is horrifying! The fact that Bach and Beethoven is
what many consider to be the only FORM of classical music out there proves the lack of knowledge
about the subject. The term 'classical' has many deeper reasons than what most can realize and/or
understand. I was hoping for a higher level of debate not someone looking for a way to discuss
non-music like heavy metal or rap....It is important to understand music and how it relates to
communication....History books are a good resource. For this...I thought everyone took that class at
least....Now don't run too fast to the library to look up the subject.. |

I think classical music provides probably the finest recorded examples of music we have, at least
within the Western tradition. Clearly it wasn't the first music, however, in the sense that music
existed even in ancient times.
Just because it was the best, though, doesn't mean we should listen to it exclusively, staying
trapped in a misty nostalgia. Shakespeare has been the best poet in English for hundreds of years.
It doesn't mean that other poets should either throw away their pens or attempt to imitate his
style.
The rhythms of life evolve. We have things that weren't present in Shakespeare or Beethoven's time :
Combustion engines and machine guns and jet aircraft. These alter our perception of rhythm, forcing
language and music to change in order to keep up.
However good classical music was, we can't ignore the fact that it evolved into nothingness, the
monstrosity of modernism. The tradition failed. Continuing the tradition isn't really an option for
us, since to do so would only be pastiche. We need to invent a new music and hope that one day it
will attain the depth and subtlety of the German classical music. |

All of music stems from classical, it's the father of all music. |

Yessss !!! Everything else is just noise and laments, as far as I am concerned.
Trying to compare Hip hop to Bach's Musical Offering is like a comparison between a Pogo and caviar

Classical music is very beautiful and I like listening to it...but it's not the first (look at
Grenache's response) or the best. I'd rather listen to ragtime/jazz. |

First and Best? NO. Indian, Asian, and other world cultures predated what you call Classical and
most have note scales larger and instruments more diverse than you'll find in Western Classical
music. And even in the Western cultures from where Classical sprang there was music the tribes
played whether it be Celtic or other. And in a real sense, blues, jazz, rock, hiphop are all truer
in their genesis in comparison to the earlies music than your clinically sterilyzed Classical
music.
This isn't to say I hate Classical and don't respect it, but it's to say Classical fans are wrong to
look down on forms of music other than their own. |

A couple of years ago, the band Yes played in my city, with our symphony. Rehearsals were slow
because the Symphony musicians kept interrupting the Yes members to autograph the Symphony members'
old Yes albums...
I personally think Bach would have loved Pink Floyd and Porcupine Tree. |

The Medieval music period was the first, but I believe that modern music has always been improving
and has been the best for a long time. |

I don't know how you came to the conclusion that classical music was the first type of music. Other
types of music predate classical. Other types of music can elicit thought. To restrict one's taste
to a single genre is dull and demonstrates a limited mind. I agree that some types of music seem
like nothing more than noise, but even they require thought tp produce. |

Although Classical music is the first music that has ever been recorded, whether it's the"best" type
of music of music of not is strictly based on a personal opinion. Some people think that their own
favorite types of music are the best, and that's how it will continue. There is no "best" type of
music is art and differ with people's tastes.
*Side Note* There have been several instances where the effects of classical music has been
researched, for example, the Mozart effect (Google it if you do not know). The Mozart effect was
said to temporarily increase mental abilities. |

There is no doubt about it - classical music was the first type of recorded music. But, because
music is such a subjective art form, it is frivolous to argue the "best" genre of it. I don't think
classical is superior to other types, despite being a die-hard orchestra musician. I am deeply
challenged by newer, "hipper" styles of music, sometimes more so than classical. |
