Christianity Deserves More Respect
I think that too many people bad mouth Christianity, and that we deserve more respect. The way it goes in society is that it's OK for other people to express their religion, but of course they try to mock and silence Christians if they wear a crucifix or have a Bible. Christians have just as much right to express their faith just as anyone else does in other religions.

I suppose they do. I admit I haven't been too respectful of peoples beliefs before but that because they pi$$ me off by trying to force their beliefs down my throat which is disrespecting my right not to be religious. I've seen to many occasions when Christians believe they deserve respect and then don't respect those who disagree with them.
But I have to remember not all Christians are like this and I apologise if I've disrespected your beliefs before.

Christians definitely deserve respect the same as any other religion.

You have to know though that the moment you point a finger at someone else and call them a sinner or censor them or ban something they do you open yourself up to some type of a response. Don't intepret a strong response to be disrespectful IF it's a fight the Christians started.

And I am a Christian, a proud Christian, but I believe asking tough questions, having tolerance for others, and giving science a chance are not incompatible in the least with being a Christian and I consider it a responsibility to speak out if I have to.

But I'll always be respectful.

Do you take Christianity from Genisis, or from the teachings of Christ? And if one is wrong, by scientific beliefs, why might the other not be just as wrong?

True, Christianity does need more respect. And so do all the other religions. Every ethnicity and religion in this world is mocked, on their different thoughts about how life works, not just Christianity, even thought there are mostly Christians on this site. It just really depends on how the person expresses their religion and how they talk about other religions.

Are you saying that religions should be more respected than any other group of people, or are you saying that they should be treated equal to ever other group, but they're not being so at the moment?

I love the philosophy and faith of Christianity.. Raised Catholic...but do not practice... Christianity is beautiful but has been ruined by organized religion.... A fine example of Christianity was with Martin Luther King... He broke barriers that looked impossible to break...using the teachings of Christ....

No one can find a fault with Martin Luther King. No one at all.

Everyone's faith and beliefs and ideals all deserve to be treated with more respect, including the christians.
A lack of respect can be traced to most social problems one way or another. Trust and respect are the cornerstones of all society.
And relationships both personal, and generally.

Ppl asume that all christians are jerks and are stupid nieve lunatics. We aren't! Yes some r and i look down on those like that. But not all. We are ppl just like everyone else who no where they are going when we die and have a relationship with God. Its not just Christians who deserve the respect, like joe said, GOD does.

The argument falls down if you realise you're also talking to people who don't BELIEVE in god - we believe there is nothing TO respect. We can respect your right to have religious beliefs, but don't expect us to hold them above any other; don't expect us not to challenge them if we believe they contradict the truth; don't expect us to tiptoe around religious beliefs simply because they're RELIGIOUS and sacred. Sacred why? Because the church told us so.

What do you mean by "respect"? We let you have an opinion, don't we? We can disagree all we want.

The only respect that the religious deserve is their right to have it, and are already getting that.

The only disrespect that religious people get is when they try to put it isn't places where it isn't welcome, like non-believers' lives through proselytizing.

The biggest lie the religious tell is the claim that they are "oppressed" when they are prevented from oppressing others.

No doubt the response to this by the religious will be the lie that disagreeing with the OP equates to oppression. Wrong. The OP has a right to believe his hokum and say it, and those who disagree with him have a right to say that also. In the warped of the religious, though, the equal ability of both to speak is "oppression against them"...or they're just lying in an attempt to play emotional cards to gain an upper hand.

How in the world did this whole thing about downtrodden disrespected Christians get started? You’re the largest religion in the western world. I’ll bet cold hard cash that I have suffered a lot more disrespect for not being religious than you have for being religious. If people poke a little fun, well suck it up. Besides half the time you guys claim disrespect it's because someone has the temerity to actually voice a different view, even though you guys spout your stuff at e very drop of a hat.

Difficult one this. Personally I'm against the idea of giving religions more respect - authority, an overly large voice in society etc. - to anyone simply because they're religions (as I believe they should be treated just as any other group of 'ordinary' people are). However that doesn't mean they shouldn't have any respect at all. So the question is are Christians being singled out in issues such as wearing what they want, doing what they want etc. I don't believe they are - any group (minority, as arguably here in England, or majority) can have the belief that they're being picked on. Take Muslim or arab-looking people thinking they're being picked on in terrorist cases. Any group can easily feel picked on if they hear it repeated enough - and I think that is true in the case of Christians as well.

Muslims have beautiful teachings in their faith... Christianity five hundred years ago was used heavily as a tool to keep people in their place all throughout Europe... All faiths have the ability to teach wonderful philosophies..yet can also be used as a tool to control and munipulate....nothing new in history...

Certain Christians deserve respect.
However, the ones who tell me I'm going to hell for not believing in what they believe in most certainly do not.
If I want people telling me to go to hell I'll go to a chavs house.
I'll admit the world can be harsh to christians.
But it's harsh on the rest of the world too.
You're not alone.
And if all else fails you can pray for more patience, or more tolerance or for the person to be struck down with boils or something.

I know that some Christians do this, but not all of them do. I don't tell people such things just because they don't believe in what I believe.

I just mean that Christians should be able to express their faith just as much as any other religion does without being bad mouthed.
