| Children Under A Certain Age With A Life Threatening Diagnosis Who Have Parents Who Refuse Medical Care Dut To Religious Beliefs Should Have Someone To Advocate For Them Until They Have Are Able To Fully Understand The Consequences They Face. |
| In the case of minors who are facing life threatening or debilitating health problems need to have someone to advocate tor them. This applies to not only the medical field, but also to their parent's responsibility to provide safe and effective measures that are proven to improve health and safety. Another example would be child safety seats and seatbelts. I see too many children who have parents who risk their chld's saftety and health. Something that I beiieve is a necessity until they reach the age of concent. |

I totally agree with this. It is wrong of a parent to stop a child getting medical care when it
might help them. I feel that if a parent wants to die for their religion it is up to them, just as
equally as if they would want to die rather than using their seatbelt in a car. I don't think they
have any right to do this with their own child though. They have a responsibility towards that child
and therefore need to care for them in any way possible. The child may not want to die for religion
and the child may rather wear a seatbelt rather than die if they didn't have one on. The parent
needs to follow the general consensus society goes with which would be to seek medical care for
their child and to force their child to wear their seat belt until they are of an age where the
parent can explain the other point of view they may hold so the child can make up their own mind.
Not brainwash them at an early age into following their belief. The child is their own person
therefore to become a rounded individual when they are older they need to be able to make their own
decisions from an early age.
As for a parent forcing their child into having an abortion i think that is very very wrong! If the
child could die due to it i think it fair that the parent should tell them what could happen if they
carry on but i don't think it is the parents place to make them have an abortion. If a child is
pregnant they are, at the end of the day, a parent and so need to be the one who makes the decision
for their child. I agree they shouldn't have got pregnant in the first place but let us remember
that they CHOSE this form of action and that whatever happened, it is not the foetus' fault so they
shouldn't have to lose their life. |

Very good point. Like johovas witnesses cannot have blood transfusions. I do understand theyre
beliifs but between pleasing a possibly non existent god and someone dying isnt really a hard
choice. |

I believe they can become a ward of the court.
Physicians have taken legal action against parents who refuse treatment to be carried out on their
children, and won. The children become a ward of the court who then sign consent papers presented by
the Physician. |

I didn't have room in my debate explaination to fully express the dangers that some kids face due to
parents who deny medical care for their kids and who, as is commonly seen, let their kids roam
freely through the vehicle while it is in motion. I just read a news story that a court is
attempting to force parents of a 13 year old boy to allow chemotherapy for a cancer with a 95%
survival rate if treated medically. The physicians involved state that, to deny menical treatment,
would have a poor outcome and put his live in grave danger. I believe that people are free to
worship and parent in keeping with their beliefs the majority of he time, but feel that a child in
not capable of making an informed choice in certain situations. Mecical intervention, car safety
seats and the choice to buckle up is not responsible to leave in the hands of a child. Though I do
not wish to push my beliefs upon others, when kids are involved, I think that they have to be aware
of any and all consequences that could adversely impact their health or safety. |
