TV causes ADD and will make people fat, tired, bored and over all boring... I personally don't watch
TV and wont start..its a waste of time..nothing is gained out of it....there are many more
productive things to do with spare time. |

I know..
Now they are going to apply this 1hour homework,`
and so students will waste their time watching TV instead of studying..
There will be no more challenge in studies if that will happen. |

Yes but for me they just not watch the TV they must concentrate on their studies and if they just
get bored they spend little time by playing some games. |

OK...I do think it is bad for the development of the brain to watch to much television.....but i
guess it wouldn't be that bad if .....you were watching educational television and that was it...you
know.... |

I can understand watching a lot of TV in the winter but in the rest of the seasons they should be
outside. There are so many fun things to do. Sports, playing in the leaves, swimming, playing with
friends, etc... Those are just a few examples. TV turns your brain to mush. Ewwww! :) jk |

Most parents find the TV as a babysitter for their children and I think this is wrong. TV is OK in
moderation, but children should be getting the physical activity that they need. Many children and
adults are fat because all they do is eat and sit in front of the TV. There should be a switch on
televisions that says when you have watched enough for the day and it shuts off. Most people don't
have the will power to turn it off and go outside to participate in a physical activity. |

Hey I'm a teenager and I truly think there should be less TV time, it should not be band but not 12
hours a day. I usually don't watch TV on the week days because I study , do homework or during the
warmer months ride my bike to a friends, I watch 2 hours on Friday (Two favorite shows) and I watch
and hour on Saturday. Depending on the day I watch more or maybe a movie. I don't watch any tv on
Sunday (nothings on).
I'm also on the smartest in my class, I have millions after school things to do, I get good grades
and I'm socially more aware then most 16 year olds. This is because for entertainment I read, ha
when i was younger my mom would take my books away rather than the TV was I was misbehaving :) |

When I was a kid, my preschool-teaching mom forbade us to watch “The Three Stooges” because the
comics’ actions were too stupid and violent, and she feared we would imitate them. Would that more
parents exercised that control now!
The adult role models children see on TV are appalling: Self-centered, sarcastic, overly concerned
with their appearances, dispensing casual violence. Also, TV sets and ads promote a lifestyle beyond
the reach of the average viewer, so we feel inadequate.
Marshall McLuhan said that TV is the new “opiate of the masses.” It is undeniable that increased
TV watching has decreased the level of literacy. Reading a book is virtually no one’s chief form
of entertainment now.
There are documented links between increased violence by young children to the amount of TV watched.
A dangerous disconnect has developed between TV violence and that in the real world, resulting in
more student gunmen. |

See the kids now-a-days compared to kids from the past? We have t.v., past kids did not. Kids from
the past got out more, were more physically fit, and so on. Kids are becoming lazy-butts. It's
obvious, and I think the parents are responsible. |

I agree that children, and adults should watch less TV. The world is becoming extremely obese and a
major part of it is caused by people sitting on their butts watching TV.
Parents should engage their children more in extracurricular activities (academics, sports, arts).
They also should pull them from the TV and sit down and have one on one chats with their children.
Parents are so busy these days trying to make everything work, that so little time is spent with
their children talking. It's much easier to use the TV as a babysitter rather than interacting with
their children.
Parents should also get their butts off the couch and take their children outside for play time.
It's rare to see a family playing at the park, a family playing a game of tag football in the yard,
a family going out to the movies or dinner. Life has become so fast paced for so many families that
the 'family' part is missing in most lives.
TV, the babysitter and weight gainer, is one of the main sources. |

Children should watch less uneducational TV show. However, a larger limit should be allowed by
parents for educational programming. The government shouldn't stick their noses into the decision
though. |

Gone are those days when television was counted as the only communicative and entertaining medium.
Today’s world possesses a number of mediums which are, to some extent, much healthier when it
comes to the matter of children. Children have the soft mind, just like the spongy sand in the beach
where the footmarks of the passer by make a time-long impact. The child mind is usually involved in
making an imitation of what they see. Today’s television produces a lot more dangerous acts as
well as many vulgar scenes which can make a long term evil effect on a child’s mind. According to
my point of view, children should engage themselves little in watching television rather than
playing games and reading books. |

I definitely agree, the TV taints our children and puts too much emphasis on sex. We should be
spending more time with our children instead of allowing the TV to raise them. It taints their
perception of reality. |

Recent studies have shown that children who watch too much television are less likely to communicate
verbally or socialise as well as children who's TV time is strictly limited.
Allowing children to have too much access to PC's and Tvs reduces the amount of time spent
communicating in the 'real world' and within social groups and within the family.
It's far more healthy mentally and physically if children play, indoors or out, especially outside
in the spring and summer. They learn social skills, relate to real people and develop as people.
Some of the programmes on the television which children watch are poor quality and detrimental to
learning in a positive way.
There is a place for television provided it does not leave the child isolated and unsupervised in
their hours and choices in viewing.
Many of my friends are teachers and they all agree that children who have little access to
television are at an advantage in communication skills and social skills.
Children should be given their own time and space but should also receive the attention the deserve.
Reading to young children is lovely for both adults and children as it provides a closeness that
television can't provide whilst stimulating the imagination and providing access to books.
On the physical health side the rise in the number of over -weight children has links to the
sedentary nature of television watching as well as poor eating habits.
There are so many other things children and their families can do. They can play, read, talk, walk
for example and there's no substitute for the real pleasure a close family and shared interests can
provide for a child. |

I am of the opinion that children should watch less TV. There should be a scheduled time for
children to watch TV and only specific channels and programes. The children must take keen interest
in their studies, watching too much TV will cost them failures. There are so many Ads and programes
on TV now days that are against morality and ethics. TV has also spoiled the social life and extra
curricular activities of the children. Now we see that children are less active and sharp in sports.
You will find many children chubby because they don’t take exercise. |

Yes, I am also of the view that children should watch television less. The reasons I have are as
follows:
1. Radiation from the television can make their eye sight weak as their body parts are still
developing.
2. The media has gotten to be so bold now as to show vulgarity and nudity on almost every
channel.
3. Children must be engaged in physical activities for the betterment of their health.

I think it reasonable to watch t.v because during school we get tired and just want to rest and
relax. Yes we study when we need too. We do all our homework (hopefully) Us kids know what to do
and when we should do it. And we don't always watch t.v we do go out and hang out with our
friends.. (that's only if our parents lets) and sometime there's really nothing to do at home but to
watch t.v. If all we do is focus on school work and everything it gonna give us stress and
everything.. And who knows what might happen. And honestly what can we do now a day when going
out.. For us kids (if you consider teens) places that we want to hang out for fun involve money and
stuff. So most likely we're stuck at home watching t.v -.-"... |

I agree that children need to spend more time doing other things such as physical activity but not
to the extent where they are limited in other joyous activities. I don't watch much TV myself but
for some people it may be a relaxing hobby of theirs. Are you saying that a child shouldn't relax in
front of the TV each evening? One of the joyous parts of coming home from school is having things
such as TV. Don't for one minute think i am biased, i rarely watch TV consistently. I just disagree
that we should be telling children not to watch TV. I mean what else is there to do for them? |

They can watch TV, when supervised by adults. They should watch good shows, some which will help
them grow into good citizens, which would help them develop good habits, qualities in them. |

When you say children should watch less t.v. I think that you miss the point that one it is just not
children that watch to much TV and also i my self like to sit down and watch TV and when watching i
learn new things. So i think that people who are voting for 'Children are watching to much t.v.
Should think why are theye and what can i do that will prevent this happen, as ussaly watching to
much TV is down to boardem and lack of commitment by both the child and adult to communicate with
each other

Not all TV is bad. Public television has many educational and informative programs. I still remember
quote from a children's program when I was young, I'm 62 now. The host always closed his program by
saying, "Kids it's nice to be important, but it is more important to be nice". There is a lot to be
learned by watching TV. Parents just need to supervise what programs kids are allowed to watch. |

Simple's argument has some major flaws in it.
1. Radiation from the television can make their eye sight weak as their body parts are still
developing.
Rebuttal: Oh yes, we're all so afraid of the visible spectrum of light now we have to wear radiation
tags and get in decontamination chambers after we walk past!
2. The media has gotten to be so bold now as to show vulgarity and nudity on almost every
channel.
Rebuttal: They do it for the betterment (in theory) of the populace
3. Children must be engaged in physical activities for the betterment of their health

Children should watch a reasonable amount of television, but I'm not sure what would count as less.
Radiation? I shouldn't worry about radiation, try seating your child at a reasonable distance from
the television. Surely a parent should know that a television is not a babysitter.
Nudity on television is not something we should protect children from. There are many things to try
to keep away from our children for as long as possible, but not nudity. It's a very narrow society
that teaches its kids that nudity is wrong. The body is beautiful. It's not sexual, it's not wrong
or embarrassing, it's wonderful. Why teach them shame related to their body. Yes, don't let them
watch porn, but you don't cover their eyes.
If you want to look for something to blame for the break down of the family unit, look to both
parents working. If you want to look for the reason that children aren't getting fit, perhaps you
should look at the Internet.
It's true there are too many ads, but with TIVO or other devices, it's easy to skip through them.
Television is not the great evil, try Internet, try XBox and Playstation, try drugs, try sex, try
booze. Television is just a little box in the corner of the room, and less threatening than it ever
has been. |
