It seems young people can get away with horrid crimes (torturing a kitty to death in the microwave, for example) simply because they are minors. This is bullshit and has to stop. I heard that this one kid who shot up his school will be let out of prison (the kid was 11 or 12 when doing the shooting.) This has to stop. If we really love the children we will prosecute and imprison them as criminals.
I agree, if anything the government should drastically lower the age. This isn't the 1940's anymore
and it's certainly not like Leave It To Beaver. Kids are out of control. Just being around a
suburban town one can see 6th graders getting drunk, doing drugs, beating people up, and doing sick
things that they know they can get away with because the are minors. Most kids know their basic
rights and abuse them. For all that is holy look at the teenage girls who tricked, trapped and beat
a girl who was their friend to unconsciousness because she wrote something about them online. The
first things them and their parents tried to say was they are minors, just foolish children they
don't know what their doing. It makes be sick and I would love for people like that to learn their
lesson in jail with a long sentence that can make up for the physical and psychological pain they
have inflicted on that girl that will haunt her for the just of her life.
I agree. The crimes you described are disgusting and the children that comitted them should
certainly be prosecuted as adults. Kids get away with far too much these days. I recently read in
the paper that a bunch of four and five year olds beat a dog so badly it had to have its leg
amputated. The fact that children as young as this could do something so cruel worries me.
Prosecute the little bastards! Once, a five year old (seriously) smashed my HEAD against a TELEPHONE POLE, damaged my temple and god knows what else happened as a result.
OK I can agree on the shooting. My friend attorney is in the position. This girl encouraged these
gang members to beat this guy up and he is like 20 and now he functions as an 8th grader. It sad
some we do need to prosecute as adults then some we don’t it depends on the crime and case. I am
50/50 on this. I think the girl should be tried as an adult but the stupid judge who doesn’t know
what he is doing said no she will be tried as a juvenal these were her actions and encouraged and

There is already a legal process to prosecute a minor as an adult. It is used quite commonly with
16or 17 year old that commit a violent crime. If the prosecutor and the judge agree the severity of
the crime and the capacity of the minor are such that he or she understands the nature and
implications of his or her actions then they can decide to try him as an adult. So are you saying
we should lower the qualifying age for achieving your majority, or do away with the legal status of
minor all together? Or maybe your suggesting the definition of minor should only change in terms of
criminal culpability? One interesting side effect would be that two 13 year old who have sex could
both be charged with statutory rape. I’m sorry but an 11 year old does not have the same
understanding of his actions that an adult does. That is why they have to have guardians, because
they aren’t capable of thinking as an adult and being responsible for themselves.
Well the problem with this is the families they were raised in. A kid taught to deal with his
problems with a gun or with fighting will fight. A kid taught that animal torture is a fun and fine
thing will do just that. Don't punish the kids for the parents teachings. Take the kids away from
them and teach them otherwise because as long as families will exist and bias will exist in the
families this will always happen
