I think that cell phone SHOULD be allowed in school. Maybe not during class time, but at my school, the teachers are TOTAL phone Nazis. Even if its after/before school hours, if you have a phone ON CAMPUS, its theirs. WHICH IS STUPID. Legally, they should not be allowed to take your phone..its NOT theirs. But during important class time...i can understand why they would want them off and out of sight.

I am for it. I do think that there should be rules of use during school hours. No texting or call taking during class, unless in an emergency situation. The emergency situation should be well defined. My son's school has a policy of no cell phones are to be used on school property. While I am not one to tell my kid to break rules- he takes his to school everyday, but he knows that there will be consequences at home and at school if he uses it- but I have told him in case of an emergency- it would be better than not using it. If he needs something from me he forgot- then he is to go to the office and use the school phone. We have never had any problems. Also- he forgot to take it oneday and had an out of town football game which he would be leaving from the school. I took it to the office and the secretary said there was no problem, she understood because she has kids of her own and could see why I would want him to have it. He did get his phone before leaving for the football game :)

Yes they should because whether or not they pay attention is on them. But it still should be controlled

Cell phones should be able to be used during passing periods and should be taken into class. But in class a student shouldn't be able to text. Emergencies purposes doesn't only mean that students getting a call b/c there mom went into the hospital it includes school shootings and emergencies inside the school where the office might be unreachable.

I agree that cell phones should be kept in case of an emergency. However if they are to be allowed in this instance then they should be confined to the locker throughout the school day that way there are no distractions or have the teachers keep them in the front of the class so that no one uses them during the lessons.

I think all kids should be allowed to bring cell phones to school so if a friend is absent he/she/or I should be allowed to take pictures of the missed homework the friend missed

Yes they may be used for other purposes but they should be because they help us and the can let us call for a ride because they don't let you come back in the school after you leave

There's nothing wrong with it so long as it's limited to emergencies only and even then, it's questionable. The chances of an emergency where you're cut off from the office are so minuscule as to be hardly worth considering and any student having an emergency otherwise can just go to the office and use the phones there. However, for the sake of argument, as long as it doesn't interfere with education, why not?

If there is an emergency, all you have to do is contact the school office. Cell phones in school would be abused.

But what if the emergency is a school shooting and the office personnel is being held at gun point. If students and teachers have cell phones then it can get information to the other class and 911 can be called by someone. The people involved in the school shoot may also cut phone lines so calls can't be made.

Some cellphones can't take pictures and you wouldn't just use cellphones to take pictures. Also i think it should just be back in the old days where all you brought to school was your back back your books and yourself that's it. Now people have ipods, cameras, cellphones like a whole bunch of electronics.

In the period of easy communication cell phones are essential. Day to day updates of this electronic gadget attracts us more especially young school students. They take it for more and more modernize features and spend unusual time with cell phones. Sometimes they are so obsessed with cell phones that they forget to think about their outside world, which is unhygienic and sometimes causes their death. Cell phones in the school should be banned because if they take it they must pay sometime for it. So, how they concentrate on their lesson? We have recorded the events that the students taking illegal photos in cell phone inside the school campus. Loud rings of cell phones and irritating activities with it break the concentration of the class. After banning the cell phone the schools have to provide telephone which the students able to use in case of emergency.

Students should not be allowed to take out a cell phone in school. They should allow them to carry them because they are good to have in case of an emergency. Sometimes it may be necessary to contact their parents. However, students should not be allowed to chat or text with friends on their cell phones when they are in school. It is a disruption in the learning process. Therefore, because of the fact that students cannot use cell phone responsibly at school, they should definitely ban them. If students would learn to use them responsibly and not allow them to interrupt their learning, then maybe schools could have them. But until that time, they should be ban.

If cell phones are allowed to schools in case of emergency how do you ensure they are just being used in emergency situations? Cell phones are a huge distraction and not just cell phones, laptops and all other electronic and electric gadgets affect the learning process.

If there is an emergency I am sure all schools have phone lines and not just one but several phone lines. Phone booths are also available if you want to make a call and hence, there is no need to allow cell phones in schools.

Most classrooms have phones, and other ways of communicating. I'm against this, because I think children are spoiled enough these days. I also think giving in, would just open the door for more B.S..

Yes and No. Cell phones can be the cause of a lot of distractions. I'm a student in school right now, and a lot of kids text in class. This is a big distraction to the learning environment. It could be good for an emergency, but there are phones in the class rooms and in the office at school.
