Oh Lord help us all!!!
Do you people SERIOUSLY not understand that conceiving a baby is only possible for a very short
(like 48 hour) period every 26-30 days??? Does anyone learn anything in sex-ed classes? Do all of
you seriously not understand how birth control works? The very action of the pill not allowing the
fertilized egg to implant is in their views a destruction of that fertilized egg. I am not Catholic
but I do know that there's many ways to avoid an unwanted pregnancy. I am saddened when I come to
this site and read posts that make me realize that so many unwanted pregnancies are due to simple
lack of education. A cheap pencil and a cheap paper calendar...that's all that is needed to avoid
"over-population".
And of course a little education - people pleeze - go get some!
Instead of what we're doing now, wouldn't it be better to just avoid all the destruction of
fertilized eggs and of course, avoid the many abortions. |

They should not preach and not follow their own preachings,
the catholic church preaches that contraception is illegal, then if one chooses to follow the
religion, the should follow it completely instead of decided that some parts do not relate to
them.
Live by that you preach |

Exactly. This is just not the way people are to behave. The reason for this is not based in secular
whining so I'm not going to bother explaining. It is a violation of natural law. |

If they feel they truly believe in being Catholic, then yes, they should follow it to the letter or
face being called a hypocrite. |

No. In the 1950's, Catholic families were always larger than other families because the Pope and
the church were adament about Catholics practicing only one form of birth control. To increase the
number of Catholics, the Church wanted more and more Catholics born. Fortunately, individuals and
couples took power from the dictates of the Church in order to live their lives as they believed
their God, who sets people free rather than burden them, desired of them.
((sorry, this belongs in the against column but I cannot move it. As with others, a negative
statement can sometimes lead to saying yes when meaning no.) |

Boy, I can tell you’ve never been to the Andes!
When I was in the Peruvian highlands in 1984, every Indian woman between the ages of 14 and 45 had a
baby on her hip -- with toddlers clinging to her skirts. The amount of arable land was minimal as
the topsoil has disappeared under the intense pressure of overpopulation. The poverty was
overwhelming.
When the pope visited Madagascar awhile back, a news reporter said that for every child born, five
acres of habitat are lost. Yet all the good little Madagascar Catholics continue to breed like
flies.
The average Third World woman (many of whom are Catholic) has seven pregnancies. Think of how those
women could be contributing to their society economically if they weren’t constantly breeding.
Sorry, but in my book, the pope is an international criminal, responsible for the economic
enslavement of the population of countless nations. |

Now a days, an increasing population is the main cause behind every ecological imbalance, both
directly and indirectly, and thus we have to be cautious about it. In such a situation it is
absolutely sarcastic to abolish the use of contraception among Catholics under any circumstances.
According to catholic teachings contraception disrupts the creativity of GOD. But using pills and
condoms not only ensures family planning but also ensures better life for the couples. Overall it is
absolutely the couple’s decision about using contraception and any kind of such rule is nothing
but leads to the violation of democratic independence. There is no justification of this matter to
ban the facility of modern science in the name of religion. For the sake of humanity, I believe that
this custom followed by Roman Catholics should be verified under the circumstance - overpopulation. |

I think this is ridiculous. I really don't think God intended the world to be over populated or for
people to have children they can not afford. Do people really think it is his great plan to watch
children go without what they need because their parents are devout Catholics? |

I certainly think that one can be a "decent" Catholic, even if he/she were to use condoms, or any
form of contraception. Nevertheless, since these actions do contravene church teaching and (in most
cases) may constitute what Catholic doctrine calls a "mortal sin," it is necessary to take part in
the sacrament of reconciliation (otherwise known as confession) before participating in communion
during mass. No one is required to participate in reconciliation, but the church does teach that if
Catholics wish to fully restore their relationship with God, then they must confess these
transgressions.
It is, however, important to remember that those Catholics who use contraception, but are not aware
of the church's long-standing opposition to this and that it constitutes a mortal (rather than a
venial) sin, would not be required to confess. |

I'm against this one as I think Roman Catholics should have the right to use contraception if they
want to.
The pope should leave the planning of families to those who have them and not dictate what is right
for the individuals involved.
This is a suppression of women and their right to limited families they can't cope with.
The pope has also said that no contraception should be used even if there is a risk of the spread of
Aids or a baby being born with HIV. This seems very extreme.
The people least able to cope or speak for themselves are being controlled by the church in a way
that potentially harms them and any children they may have.
In over-populated countries where there is poor medical care and starvation the pope should
encourage people to limit families , rather than encourage further distress and misery.
Many very good and decent Catholics use contraception. |

Than Catholics shouldn't use any other type of medication, because if it's not in our bodies already
it isn't natural. How do the Catholics feel about abortion, instead of other birth control methods?
I'm sorry I'm going to have to disagree with this statement. |
