Technically you are correct; however I think you are asking the wrong question. The only relevant
question in regards to legalization is; which is more harmful to society, Cannabis legal or illegal? |

I think any substance that can impair one's judgment has the potential to be dangerous, but
marijuana is certainly not any worse than alcohol aside from the fact that it's not legal and no one
really knows if they are buying something that could be laced with something more harmful because of
lack of any regulation. Marijuana is not physically addictive and, although there are some who are
psychologically addicted to it, I don't believe that it would cause the same destruction as alcohol
can if someone has a drinking problem. Marijuana is a carcinogen, but alcohol had destroyed many
people's livers and is definitely proven to impair driving ability even with a small amount in one's
system. If people knew how many toxic chemicals they were exposed to by simply showering and
grooming, (not to mention in most foods), I think there would be more alarm over many of the things
we believe are safe. It seems to me that, although marijuana is not legal, it is not anymore
harmful to those who use it responsibly than cigarettes, alcohol or many of the foods and
supplements that we don't even think twice about consuming. To be honest, I'm about tired of
hearing how bad some things are for one's health. I believe that as adults, people should be
responsible for their own actions and choices. If someone becomes intoxicated and gets behind the
wheel, there is where I think the line needs to be drawn, but alcohol is not the only substance that
causes intoxication. People can easily harm others by taking a cold pill and driving. We need to
be aware of what any substance does to our bodies and our minds before we jeopardize others safety.
Marijuana gets a bad reputation because it's illegal. While I don't personally get high, I have
seen more mean drunks who are a threat to be around than I have seen of anyone high and starting a
fight or acting in a threatening manner.
I don't normally contribute too much to the "marijuana" debates, but I truly believe that people
make more of an issue out of it than is necessary and, if someone is of legal age and not causing
any problems for anyone else, I see no need to tell them what they do and do not put in their body.
If they become a danger to society by getting in a car or doing anything else that requires a sharp
mind while they are intoxicated, that is the time to interfere and get tough on them. The major
problem I see with pot is the same with all illegal substances....dealers who are not regulated and
who can sell anything and are not above targeting kids to sell to. Those people should be punished
to the greatest extent of the law, but someone who is over the legal age doesn't need all of society
telling them what is and isn't good for them. |

It's true only because alcohol being legal allows it to infiltrate far more lives than marijuana.
If marijuana were legal and had several generations to become as widespread and endorsed in our
cultures as alcohol then I believe marijuana would show far worse intoxication impacts. More car
crashes, more stupid behavior, etc. But currently, since it's use is dwarfed by alcohol, your
statement is true. |
