By Putting What "race" You Are, On Your Profile, You Put An Unnecessary Label Upon Yourself And Upon Others.
I am 20, asian, christian. I am 43, white, muslim. I can't understand why people write these labels! As if race denotes what music a person will like, or what interests they have. It's self-stereotyping, and only serves to divide people.

I am a humanoid earthing. Can I use that lable? Because I can't list my nutritional content to be honest.

Generally true. But keep in mind when people stand to benefit from the lable THEN they don't hesitate to put it out there, for example if you can qualify for a college scholarship reserved for a minority group then that's the time people proudly declare they're part of it. It's hypocrisy in a way that answering the question when you don't want to is an imposition or violation of your rights but answering it when you stand to benefit is a reflection of your pride.

In general, I have a problem with forms that force one to specify race. On this site, however, it is entirely up to the person who is writing their profile if they chose to use their race to describe themselves. There are only so many ways to describe our looks and race is one of them. People are also proud of their ethnic background. Those people might want to put that in their profile because it means something to them. I think Grenache made some good points on the other side. Mainly, I voted on this side because everyone has a choice in what they write in their profile and most people tend to use their race as discriptive.

Then technically anything you say is an unnecessary label. People don't only categorized based on race and if you think you don't based on any other characteristics than you'd be ignorant. People are just as likely to categorize race as they are to categorized people who enjoy football.

I wouldn't say unnecessary if they wanna give you an idea what you look like or must explain why they look a certain way.

But 'label theory' is seemingly natural if it is positive and almost considered harmless.

But if you are to label someone as a failure, or a criminal, or 'crazy person', you leave a connotation that leaves a bad taste capable of embittering that person who was labeled.

This I learned in Sociology. Of course it can be compared to befriending has better outcomes than punishing.
