Britain Should Become A Secular Country Like France.
We have freedom of relgion, we should also have freedom from it. It obviously has played an important part on our history and on our government. But for the sake of equality, no religion should have dominance over policy in government. Secularism could quite easily fill yhe boots of religion, people can decide what is ethical and what isn't without religion, humans are logical beings, we do not need religious text to decide what are priniciples are for us. Secularism would make things equal and right for everyone.

Totally agree. In france the french come first & unless its a religious issue religion doesnt enter the equation. As for gordon brown a pathetic desperate man trying prevent his sinking boat by spouting more cr@p than he normally does.

Any society which claims to value individual rights and freedom of choice should be secular at least from the standpoint of government. Individuals and families can still choose to be religious, that's the beauty of freedom of choice. But if the society endorses or conforms to a particular religion then inherently that risks stepping on the freedoms of those who don't believe or don't want to participate in that religion.

I was reading an article today where Gordon Brown said that Britain was still a Christian country unlike secularist France. I do not think we should desiginate a country under any religion, it ensures unfairness. Christians in this country claim we are becoming more and more secular, they claim this will have a highly damaging impact on our country, they are almost sounding as bad as the American religious right.

I don't really care about the topic but "Secularism would make things equal and right for everyone." is very questionable.

France is definitely not equal and right for everyone.

Why not go the full hog kddan, and make Britain the only 'GAY COUNTRY' in the world?or in fact lets make the whole world Gay, how secular is that? I don't think so, there are enough pink houses in the country, and around the world already!

I never mentioned anything to do with gay in this debate. It is about secularism and the benefits it would have on our country. It doesn't effect what you worship or believe in, it just doesn't categories us as something we are not.
