Blade Runner Is The Best Science Fiction Film Of All Time.
In its overall depth it makes most other science fiction films look like cartoons.

According to a wide number of scientists, Ridley Scott’s “Blade Runner” has been taken to be granted as the best ever science fiction film of all time. The famous British science magazine “Guardian” recently said that a number of scientists have voted for this film. This film is based on Philip KDick’s short story named “Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?” According to the film, a policeman was shown busy in hunting four illegal androids in Los Angeles. The film sketched the future vision of Los Angeles in a very dystopian manner. This movie proves itself as the best ever science fiction not only for its thinking and creativity of running quite ahead of time, but also for the usage of science as an integral part of its narrative. The power of running well ahead of time made the film ever lasting in the heart of the millions.

Never seen it, or read it... So I can't say anything bad about it.

I recently watched both Dangerous Days, the 3-hour documentary on the making of the film, as well as Blade runner : The Final Cut, the definitive edition of the classic.

Virtually all elements of this film fuse together to create a cinematic masterpiece. The score by Vangelis is outstanding; the set design is fantastic; the visual beauty of each scene is simply peerless - Ridley Scott crafts each scene like a master painter. And the performances of the actors and actresses were excellent too. Rutger Hauer, in particular, turned in one of most mesmerising performances in the history of cinema and seemed the perfect embodiment of the character he played.

Bladerunner was criticised for lacking emotional depth and being nothing but a glitzy special effects show. I dispute this. While most science fiction films are simplistic stories of bad guys vs good guys, BladeRunner is much more subtle. In the end, the viewer ends up sympathising with the supposed bad-guys, as does the hero who was chasing them. It takes us on emotional journey far greater in scope than Star Wars or any of the other contenders for the crown.

Bladerunner has also been remarkably influential. Visual motifs from this film have been showing up in other films, music videos, computer games, as well as real-world designs, ever since it was released. You could also make a strong case that Bladerunner's dystopian vision of the near-future went a long way towards spawning the cyberpunk movement in science fiction literature.

All things considered, BladeRunner is, without question, the greatest science fiction film of all time and one of the top ten films of all time.

It's good, yes, but not the best. The best in anything beyond pure one-on-one competition is purely a subjecting, individual matter. For me, "Silent Running" runs circles around any other SF movie, and only "The Wrath of Khan" is close. I would include "The Return of The King", but I exclude that from SF, owing tom its fantasy elements.

Yeah, only if crack is better than common sense, are you kidding me with this, blade runner is still selling like hot cakes fresh off the griddle. Look at how many movies have followed the technical concepts that made Blade runner so monumental.

To find truly great science fiction, read the book and watch the movie "Dune".

I have read all of the Dune novels and watched at least two filmed adaptations of them (maybe more, can't remember). The books are undoubtedly great; the adaptations less so. The David Lynch version was good but almost incomprehensible if you weren't previously familiar with the novels. Neither filmed version was anywhere near the level of Blade Runner.

It's a Ridley Scott movie set in the future where robots look like humans and are called 'Replicants'. They are banned on Earth, following problems with their programming (they went crazy and killed humans). Harrison Ford's character must catch and kill a group of Replicants that have landed on Earth. That's the quick and dirty on it

Blade Runner is good enough, but it never fundamentally transformed the science fiction genre. On the other hand, Fritz Lang's Metropolis certainly did. This 1927 film from Weimar Germany is a true cinematographic landmark, even if we are missing chunks of the original movie. Blockbuster films like Star Wars and even the Matrix were all, to a degree, modeled off of Metropolis. In fact, one may argue that Blade Runner also took inspiration from Lang's masterpiece.

We all set different criteria when defining greatness, but I would argue that the most important factor is to determine a film's influence within a given genre. Metropolis clearly takes the prize in this category and some of the special effects used (such as the Tower of Babel) remain impressive 80 years after the movie was released.

I certainly wouldn't go that far. It's a good film, but it certainly isn't as influential as others like Star Wars, certainly hasn't made the financial returns as others, certainly hasn't had the impact of others, etc. There really isn't a single metric you can look at where Blade Runner is the top of the pile.

This is only an opinion. Not everyone will agree that Blade Runner was the greatest science fiction movie ever made. I actually believe that the greatest science fiction movie ever made would be Star Wars. There is a lot more that goes into determining a great movie other than the effects and the story line of the movie. How about the amount of money it makes? What about its running time? There is a lot more than just a few good scenes that make a good science fiction film. But we all will have our own opinion on this. I did not like Blade Runner. I loved Star Wars.
