Binge Drinking Is Expressed Too Excessively In The Media
I believe that especially teenage binge drinking is way too exaggerated in today's society. Governments considering policies of raising the age level to 21 will just make it worse as it will make younger people more determined to access alcohol.

Yeah well thanks for the info I'm from aus and i need different opinions on this topic as the media here in Melbourne has just blown the issue ridiculously out of proportion. There are front page articles of teenagers throwing parties of about 200 people and having to pay damages when their parents are away, i mean, it happens a lot of the time but on a smaller scale. The media is also targeting a vast minority in youth, as there are many binge drinking adults who are of a mature age that drink excessive amounts of alcohol every day.

It has been 5 years since I lived in Aus but unless things have dramatically deteriorated you don't have it bad over there whatsoever. Not compared to the UK anyway.

I spent more time in Sydney and the laws there meant that it was illegal to serve someone alcohol if they were drunk. OK not everyone stuck to the law but the difference between teenagers drinking habits here and there was obvious.

The story about the 200 people ragging that house at a party even made the news here. I think it says alot that it made the news at all. In the UK that story might only have made the local paper.

When in Aus us Pomms couldn't believe how little the average Aussie drinks and it is never ever Fosters. You got it good down there and I would love to live in the land of plenty.

I could never quite get my head around the term binge drinking. It seems such a frequently used term nowadays. When I was a teenager it used to be called drinking. What is the need for the word binge. By its very definition every time I drink I am "binging".

As for the age limit - pointless. You find me one person that waits until 18 to have a drink to stay within the law and I will show you a liar. If the government wants to do something about the problems of kids getting wasted on booze then it should start with limiting the places where alcohol can be purchased and taking away licenses if they are found to supply under age drinkers. This happens in Australia and they drink far less than we do here despite the myths.
