Definitely. Women shouldn't win prizes for being beautiful. It's personality that counts. |

Beauty Contest should without a doubt be BANNED. Visit our my space page at
www.myspace.com/banbeautypageants and read our blogs!
Beauty Pageants are a throw back to the 1970's days when women were judged purely on there looks. I
do understand that "Beauty Queens!" raise money and awareness for much needed charities, which is
fantastic. However, why do pageants have heats such as Miss Popularity? Miss Photogenic? Why does
the contest who raises the most money or the most awareness not win? And why do beauty queens
continually appear half naked in tabloid papers such as The Sun? Or The Daily Star? I appreciate
that Laura has raised money through sponsored walks etc, however, she spends most of her time making
a name for herself in tabloid newspapers, talking about her relationship with Danny, or how her
"Possible x-factor moment" Why does she not use these perfect press opportunities to talk about the
real issues in life? Such as the charities shes apparently working for?
Back in the days when women were burning their bras, may be a little extreme to think of nowadays,
however, there statement still rings true today. Women should NOT be paraded before a panel of
judges, to be marked out of ten on there appearance, their walk, or their make-up an hair. And what
about the poor girls who do not win? Are pageants saying they are somehow inferior to the winner?
Pageants undermined all that women have worked so incredibly hard for....equality.
Today's women need to remember that looks and fame are superficial unwanted attachments to the
stereotypical image of a beautiful women. And pageants represent the want of fame, and an easy ride. |

I think beauty contest should be banned because they encourage eating disorders as the contestants
try to fit into unnatural sized clothes.
They also encourage loss of self-esteem to the people who are watching them and the contestants who
don't win. I think it is unnatural for people to parade around wearing a tonne of make-up. |
| |
|
| |
|
| |
|

Exactly. They even hold beauty contests for kids these days. Its wrong...children shouldn't have to
wear makeup! Making them look older is like an attraction for paedophiles. Its wrong and i don't
think they should be allowed for any ages group.
Beauty is in the person not just the pretty face. |

They shouldn't be banned if they were changed to something more with personality and intelligence
and less make-up but who says humans are able to do that?
Right now beauty contests lead the models to have anorexia and/or bulimia lots of times and people
who watch it to feel ugly and bad with themselves. It's true that some of the beauty constests ask
questions that would require intelligence but as you see they contestants have ready answers as
someone said up there that they always ask for world peace. If in a beauty contest you changed the
question totally more than half of the contestants wouldn't be able to answer. Other than this
people that go to this contests are prepared since they're young and probably if they were to do
another thing other than this most of them would finish with no job fat as a pig eating chocolate
because they're stressed... This are harmful in lots of ways and should be changed to make it better
but as we cant do it I say it should be banned... |

Yes.
Because all women are beautiful in a way. Everyone has SOMETHING worthy of particular notice and
that is exceptional-looking. |

Its not nice to tell people their not skinny or pretty enough to win or evan get in to these pagents
they make people feel self conscious |

I completely agree. I saw this thing on tv called "sasha beauty queen at 11" the mother was so pushy
towards her and the young girl seemed as if she had lost all her youth and innocence. To be honest i
think it is just an invitation for paedophiles and boys to look at them as say "ooohhh that looks
nice". She will probably be pregnant at 14 I'm guessing. Also it makes other people who are watching
them begin to criticise themselves and think why don't i look like that? And it makes them more
insecure. Even at the olympics when the girl who was singing was miming because the real girl was
too ugly was heartbreaking and shows just how shallow the whole world has become. It sickens me and
i am infuriated that many people are prejudice against some people because of their appearance. Its
pathetic. |

Beauty pageants are the mark of EVIL! They make little girls dress up like Hoochie-dolls, and they
present a near-fatal image of being paper thin. Personally, I think all that's really judged in such
pageants are exploit-ability and stupidity. Have you ever noticed that all of the stupid retards in
these things all wish for "world peace?"
LIKE THAT'S GONNA HAPPEN! Anyway, beauty pageants make women look like objects, not people, and
slutty objects for that matter.
I think if you want to enter yourself in a beauty pageant or a stupid Miss Whatever pageant you have
no self-esteem or self-respect.
Thank you.
And if you find this offensive... LEAVE!!! |

Actually Miss America goes back much further than the 50's. I loathe Beauty Contests. I feel they
should be banned around the world. |

Yes, I agree. They should be banned. In my opinion, they are pointless. Beauty contests are bound to
make some people feel unattractive.
What is the point in holding a contest based on beauty? People cannot help the way that they look.
There shouldn't be so much focus on people who are more attractive. Isn't it just rubbing it in the
faces of people who feel less attractive?
Beauty contests ae only designed for people who are skinny and covered in make-up. There is nothing
natural about them. The people who win them are not winning them for their natural beauty, they are
winning them because of the amount of make-up they wear and how underweight they are.
There is no point in making people feel unattractive because of something that is so fake. |

There just making people feel fat and or ugly. |

I am for this one. Beauty contests are only promoting the concept that pretty people can get their
way even without intelligence. A lot of these shows put the men and women watching in a complex that
probably if they are not this perfect they should start doing something about this. Beauty contests
for children are as absurd as they get. These contests are demeaning for any person contesting.
Instead of engaging people in such unhealthy contests they should be redirected towards intelligence
and skill based contests that have a meaning and purpose. |
| |
|
| |
|
| |
|
|
The pressure of these beauty competitions is outrageous. Beauty pagents force women or anyone else
to compete for trivial titles based upon how much money they have to make themselves look good. None
of them are ALL natural.(they wear make-up) It is not healthy to give a title of superiority based
simply on looks. Or to give that image to young people. |
| |
|
| |
|
| |
|
|
Beauty contests simply pose more problems than what they are actually worth. These competitions are
detrimental to those involved, as well as to many viewers. Many of the models are encouraged to
become inceasingly thin, in order to fit conventional wisdom about what constitutes outer beauty.
This has led to Anorexia among many in the industry, as well as to a host of mental health issues,
as participants struggle to reach weights that are often impossible to maintain on the long-run.
Girls watching these contests also get the impression that beauty boils down to how thin you are and
those that do not resemble these models may begin to think that they are not beautiful at all.
Rather than trying to emulate Barbie dolls and attempting to slip into designer clothing created not
for humans, but for coat-hangers with legs, there should be more contests that measure things that
really matter--personal skills, knowledge and volunteerism. |

|

|

Many beauty contests offer scholarship programs that help inforce the idea that no matter how good
looking you are intellegence is important. Also most beauty contests have a talent portion which
gives no consideratrion to looks. |

I don't see anything wrong with them. |

Every one is beautiful in there own way so keep them |

|

If women want to prove they have more physical beauty than other women, they should be allowed to.
Stupid hot women should have something they are good at too. You're just biased against anyone who
is better-looking than you. |
| |
|
| |
|
| |
|
|
If people want to get together and decide who the most beautiful girl is they should be allowed to.
You should go enjoy your life and not let them ruin it. |
| |
|
| |
|
| |
|
|
If you think you are beautiful and want to accentuate that then it's up to you not for anyone else
to judge. |
| |
|
| |
|

No if ppl have such a problem with them then simply don't watch them |
| |
|
| |
|
| |
|
|
Every day people are judges on their physical qualities, so there is a general aurora that there is
nothing wrong with judging people primarily on their physical prowess. Why should people object to
us doing this when looking at beautiful women (or men) as we do this all the time in competitive
sport. |
| |
|
| |
|
| |
|
|
Though it does - in my opinion - put an unnecessary amount of pressure on the people competing, if
it what they want to do, then let them go for it. |
| |
|
| |
|
| |
|
|
I do not think they need to be banned, but I do believe that they need to be changed a great deal.
Most beauty pageants are geared towards the skinny, often blonde bombshell. They target the type of
woman that is rarely seen in public. There are many normal people out there who are beautiful. There
are obese women who are beautiful. There are women out there who have no physical beauty, but on the
inside they are beautiful because of their attitudes and outlook on life. A skinny body and blonde
hair does not always make a woman beautiful. I think they should have beauty pageants for women
based on their attitudes, accomplishments and for who they are on the inside. If they can do this, I
think they will be even more popular and they would also portray a more positive image for all
women. |
| |
|
| |
|
| |
|
|
It is indeed shallow, and women are led to be treated as objects, but they hold the right to
participate in beauty contests and hold them if they desire. More contests should instead revolve
around intelligence and other topics however. |
| |
|
| |
|
| |
|
|
I see nothing wrong with beauty contests in principle. And I have no objection if beauty contests
for men are held too. If they're going to hold them at all, though, I think they should be upfront
about it. If women are being judged on their physical attributes alone, just say that. Don't make
the contestants waffle on about how they want to help orphans and contribute to world peace. That's
just pure hypocrisy. |
