It is definitely worse than bad manners. All bad manners do is show you the person wasn't raised with parents that showed them any. Bad hygiene is a personal choice and you cannot get away from it. It surrounds you and stays with you. I feel this is much worse than manners.

Now it really depends on the situation. If someone crosses my path, who for a matter of fact has the foul stench of skunk anus, and is compared to one who blatantly is straight forward with rude comments to total strangers than there's probably a tie for a state of offensiveness. But what if smelly skunk man is compared to someone who's manners are only slightly "bad". And vice versa.

I think it matters on the person i myself don't care if someone has bad hygiene they are living their life the way they want aren't they? Bad manners on the other hand i don't mind as long as they aren't purposely trying to insult me.

Bad hygiene can be a little off-putting, but I would rather be friends with someone with hygiene problems who has a great personality than someone who is clean but very bad mannered.

Sometimes people who smell or look bad can't help it. They could be mentally retarded or mentally ill, they may be a pig farmer, they may be homeless. If they're good people and treat your right it doesn't matter much though you probably don't want to hug them. Meanwhile you can have metrosexuals who look and smell like a million bucks but act like the devil himself. I'm much more offended by the latter.

And that's not to say I endorse bad hygiene. Hygiene does matter. But your soul can stink worse than your pits.

I don't like bad mannered people....that never changes. You can fix a hygiene problem.

 I believe It is as psychological as should be either way. That being said, it's as easy to resolve as thinking differently.

I've been around some people with REALLY bad manners. I think a rude, well-dressed, clean person is worse than a kind, smelly, badly dressed person.
