Atheists Do Pray
Sometime back, someone posted a debate in which he stated that in times of trouble, atheists pray to god. I've been thinking about that and it occurred to me that perhaps atheists actually do pray; it's just not a prayer to deity. It's a generalized prayer, which includes no more than just the situation at hand, often along the lines of ,"Please, please, please let me find a way out of this situation." In that context prayer actually sounds like it's an attention-focusing device.

I actually understand what you are meaning, about Atheists do pray in their own way.

Truth? Christians do not always say their prayers either: We can FEEL a prayer.
Sometimes prayer is just a feeling you have towards your Higher Power when you look up into the fluffy white clouds in the blue, blue sky on a summer afternoon, like Longfellow's poem;-)

Poets tend to feel more prayers than your average bear ;-)

I call it self motivation. Praying is self motivation but believed to be talking to a deity.

No, of course atheists don't pray because they don't believe in anything you can pray to. What might be happening, as is the reality when theists pray, is that they're talking to themselves.

It doesn't mean there's any invisible friend out there listening.

 I wasn't implying that it was a prayer to deity-- I think we're actually saying the same thing.

Who is the generalized prayer to? If you don't believe in anything then who do you think is going to get you out of the situation that you most likely put yourself in because you don't have any guidelines, is it just do as you please then hope "someone or something" gets you out of your mess even though you don't believe in anything? It just doesnt make any sense. Rethink!
