I once heard Rush Limbaugh the Radio and T.V presenter......describe dogs du and a doughnut box being presented as art.
When it comes to the Turner Prise, that is about the level art has reached, and belongs, both in the USA and Great Britain. The Gutter.

Yes, art is rubbish especially because it gives nothing to humanity. Thomas Edison invented the light bulb and contributed to the benefits of human beings, but what are the benefits of the painting of Mona Lisa by Leonardo da Vinci?? Nothing!!

So art is rubbish. I agree.

Da Vinci was more an inventor than a painter. Art is merely a form of expression and if you think that expressing oneself is garbage then so be it.

I swear, i wish i had a shoe for every close-minded person who has to open his/her mouth to dis-regard/stupify things they simply do not understand and are possibly threatened by their inability to try and put forth effort in an open way to develop a skill, i would smack them with it.

Art benefits humanity as a way to express ones self, and for some, relieve stress. So in a different way, it does contribute to humanity. Whether you want to open minded enough to see it or not.

Imagine a world with out art. What would you have to take away? The fine paintings that hang in art galleries? Sculptures in public places? The dancing fountains and the colorful wall designs in shopping malls? The eye catching window displays and posters? What would be left of the stately old churches once the stone carvings, the wood carvings and stained glass windows were removed? What would be left of buildings themselves? What would become of the objects around you and even the clothes that you are wearing? What would be left? Look around and you will see how art affects the world and the people living on it. I say you are "rubbish" David.

No.

Art is about: 1. Self-Expression/Individuality,
2. Spiritually-Driven-Desire to know the unknown.
Be part of the Eternal.

Art is absolutely necessary to the human endeavor. When we lived hand to mouth and death was a daily risk we still took time to draw on the walls of caves, sew beads to leather, and carve stone into images. If you say art is rubbish then it is because you’ve no insight into you own art.

Art is. Art is whatever you want it to be. Personally I would choose something other than Rubbish but if that is what you like then so be it. Art is created everywhere at all times in all nations, all cities and in most homes. I’m sorry that you saw some art you didn’t like; I promise there is someone else somewhere making something right now that would touch your heart. The point is artists need to be free to make whatever they think is art.

Some art is rubbish. Some art is self indulgent tripe meant to shock or offend. Some art is just scribbles or accident.

But you can't say all art is rubbish. Art includes photography, film, fashion, music, architecture, a whole lot more than paint on canvas.

I've painted for about 5 years now and I've posted for review on global websites as well as reviewed what others posted. Some truly is rubbish, and a whole lot is so so, but some is great stuff. You can't dismiss the whole of it.

Art is what contributes to our personality and creativity. Those who only value inventions like light bulbs are materialistic.

Art is not rubbish! It is human history, art was the first real proof of human creativity. If you say that art is rubbish then you are very uneducated.

Hey..i understand the reason you believe art is trash and yes today the mona lisa painting doesn't offer anything more than aesthetic pleasure! But think about earlier times when art was used just like we use photography..imagine today if you didn't have a camera...also the word art doesn't only mean painting as everyone knows it. If you look around you everything is based on someone's artistic skill! Photography, sculpture, architecture, graphic design IS art! And even a traditional painting that tells you something is used as a way of communicating and understanding each other!!!
And btw....da vinci was one of the greatest inventors in history..you should look him up! You'll be surprised!

Art is not trash, far from it, art is the expression of yourself through a painting, or sculpture, or drawing.

No. Artwork is hard to do and it takes a lot of skill. For someone to try and make an assertion that art is rubbish. Sure it doesn't contribute to humanity but it is beautiful and it lets people vent their feelings and expression. Think of it this way:
If someone is SO angry that they want to hurt someone, would you rather that they go on a wild rampage or let it out in a painting?
I rest my case.

Art is not rubbish, it is a form of expressing one self in a different form than just talking. Do you enjoy music? That's art, same with pictures, graphic design, writing, theatre, drama etc.. Many people find art relaxing, such as playing an instrument, drawing, writing, and helps them with the stresses of the day.

If someone finds art a rubbish thing then I would say that he or she has not taken the attempt to understand life at all. The reason being that in every act of life there is an art. When we deal with actual art related matters like singing, dancing, writing, painting or acting then it is absolutely a different matter but apart from this also in every part of our life there is an art related. Often it happens that the same situation confronts to different individuals but they come out with different results and that is just because of the fact that how artistically they have dealt with the entire matter. To live a peaceful life is to understand proper art because it is an art involved in every move you make.

We probably do not realize this but art is not just related to painting and sketching. Saying art is rubbish would mean that music, theatre and drama are all rubbish.

Art is a way of expressing yourself and as long as it is not harming anyone it should not be abused. A lot of people have found their peace in different forms of art. You can use art to express all sorts of emotions happy, sad or angry. It has been observed that people who are not involved in any activity related to art often choose abusive and harmful ways of self expression.

Art is certainly not rubbish. Art is very expressive and inspirational. It should be appreciated, not called rubbish.

Whenever I study a piece of art, I think about the hard work that the artist has put into it and that alone makes me appreciate it.

Art is an expression of our desire to share with each other what it is like to be a human being. Our expressions of this range from the cave paintings at Lascaux, ancient song, poetry, Shakespeare, Quentin Tarantino, Salvador Dali, Picasso, J.K Rowling etc.

You can't compare inventors with artists, they serve a different purpose in society. However, without artists, the world would be very bland, because artists of all kinds of contribute to society. Do you need art or hospitals? Could you imagine life without music? Music, the art form that touches us without interpretation, the music itself reverberates against us, interacts with our central nervous system. A good song can lift you,

If you are talking about modern art, then perhaps you miss the point. Modern art like performance art, are at the far end of the art scope. Their meanings challenge the boundaries of art and help to define what it means to make art in a simple traditional sense, because they define the upper end of the art scale.

Art has the power to change the world. People have been killed for being artists, governments acknowledge that artists are powerful functions in society. Dangerous to some.

How can you say that it has no benefit to us? Art is all around us. From the way that a website is laid out to a computer game, to a book, to a piece of music, to a television advert, a play, a film, the shade of colour on your quilt, it all took an artist of some kind.

That you do not like art is different from it not being good or useful. I disagree with TheSeeker though, I'm not sure that we should try to understand each piece of art, and see what lies beneath it.

I would far rather enjoy something for its own sake, rather than interpret it. They say that interpretation is science's revenge on art. I prefer to think of it as Jackson Pollock once put it. He was showing an interviewer around his home. The interviewer asked about the meaning behind his work. Pollock took the interviewer to the garden and showed him some beautiful flowers, the interviewer agreed they were indeed beautiful. 'Yes, but what is the meaning behind them' Pollock ironically asked.

Art has played a crucial role throughout history and it is a universal entity as it is every where. Look the art as architecture, in the houses we live in, theater, to the movies we see and literature, to the books we read.

Throughout past time art has recorded history of cave dwellers and the life & death of Christ. The art has a purpose and can be portrayed to define religion, symbols, literature, traditions or just a preference by the artist.

So Art is not rubbish it has a great value and meaning for us.

No. Art is the expression of an individual and takes a lot of work and effort. It deserves a bit of respect from the public. Try to understand every work of art and what lies behind before giving an easy affirmation david.
