Sentence Guidelines Need To Be Changed For First Time Drug Offenders In This Country
I believe sentence guidelines need to be changed for first time drug offenders.stop the warehousing in the prisons of young poor youths.the sell of crack cocaine carries stiffer penalties than powder cocaine.which targets young black men.HANDING THEM BIG TIME FOR FIRST TIME DRUG OFFENCES.ALTHOUGH MANY THAT WHO SELL POWDER ARE MORE WHITE GET LESS TIME.I FEEL AT TIMES THIS IS JIM CROWE AT WORK AGAIN TAKING AWAY VOTING FROM BLACKS,YOU CANNOT VOTE IF YOU ARE A FELON,THE MAJORITY OF THE PRISON POPULATION IS AFRICAN AMERICAN.

Governments, never do any thing about the reasons kids take or push drugs. Putting them in prison isn't a cure for it.

It’s not a matter of right and wrong, it’s simply a matter of ineffectiveness. We have more people in prison per capita than any other nation in the world yet nearly any drug you care to mention is easily available. As long as you have a substance that can be made or grown for a few hundred dollars and sold for thousands bad people will figure out how to take advantage. Say what you want but stiffer prison sentences are not working, it just drives up the street value which in turn makes all the related problems worse.

I'm guessing you are liberal Bill. I would do the exact opposite. The first time offenders (of any offense) need to be punished completely as warranted. Then maybe they will not do it again. Let them off "easy' and what lesson is learned? I'm sorry, but this first-time offender status is just STUPID! It's making a mockery of the law.

The injustice in the law you speak of is laughable. Blacks, while only 13% of the population, commit 50% of it's murders. What about that 'disparity". If the majority of the prison population is black, might the prisoners themselves something to do with the fact that they are there? Nah, couldn't be that!

I RESPECT WHAT YOUR SAYING ,BUT COULD WE AT LEAST GO AS FAR AS LOOKING INTO SEEING EACH CASE INDIVDUALLY FIRST TIME CASES SUCH AS A PERSONS CRIMANAL PAST RECORD OPPOSED TO A STRAIGHT LAW JUDGEING ALL CASE THE SAME,AND HAVING THE SAME SENTENCE GUIDLINE .AND I DO NOT MEAN THIS AS JUST A QUESTION FOR BLACKS,THIS EFFECTS ALLOT OF POOR WHITES WHO NEED A SECOND CHANCE.MY QUESTION DOES NOT INCLUDE MURDER I ONLY AM ASKING ABOUT DRUGS. THANK YOU.
