People die of normal flu all the time so why are we panicing so much bout it tbh, i would be more
scared if i got normal flu cuz they got the vacine (hope that's spelled right) for swine flu |

It's definitely good to be cautious, to plan contingencies, to educate the public, etc, but I
generally agree that the fatality of this strain of flu isn't too convincing so far especially when
compared to past flu pandemics. The only US death (so far) was actually a Mexican infant brought
across the border to seek medical attention in the US.
We should be careful, be prepared, be ready if this pandemic takes a very bad turn, but I personally
am not yet convinced this is "the big one" so to speak.
Regardless, anytime you have the flu it really really sucks. |

I don't think it's anything to be worried about, but we can't be ignorant of it. But I agree -
everyone is blowing this extremely out of proportion. Making a mountain of a molehill. Just make
sure you clean up after yourself well, wash your hands, and cover your mouth and you ought to be
good. If someone you know has it, then don't drink after them, make sure you wash your hands when
dealing with their items, etc. And if you have it, just go to the hospital. The reason so many
Mexicans have sadly died is that they waited too long to get professional medical attention on the
scene. |

Yeah i agree i think it's just an exaggeration like another pandemic scare something for people to
worry about. |

Yeah, seriously. I have a cold and everyone is spreading rumors that i have swine flu. TAKE A CHILL
PILL! |

I am of those that think that the swine flu is an issue, and it should be taken seriously- but for
the extent that it's able to spread it is obviously not as big of a threat as its hyped up to be. We
need to be serious, but at the same time cool about our actions regarding the flu. |

People and the media are blowing it way out of proportion. Scientists have already said that they're
confident that there are signs that its progression is slowing. It's nowhere near as dangerous as
the H1N5 virus (bird flu) but it is more contagious. Only mexican people have died from it. |

Of course. When it reaches Virginia, I will contemplate then whether to freak out or not. |

Definitely over reacting. With only a few deaths people and governments are already behaving
foolishly. All the available precautions that aren’t worse than the disease are being taken. We
just need to keep an eye on the progression of the virus and judge the threat and make our decisions
accordingly. By the way you can’t catch it from pigs. If you eat them raw you still can’t catch
it from them. If you go out to a night clubbing then have unprotected sex with them afterwards you
still can’t catch it from them, you can catch plenty of other nasty things but not the swine flu. |

People overreact about everything. |

I don't know, if you or someone you love gets swine flu, will you be over reacting or acting towards
and situation that can worsen |

Go look up how many millions of people died from the swine flu in 1917. Being careful means the
disease won't spread. Don't assume that because nothing has happened that preventative measures are
pointless; the preventative measures are likely why the swine flu hasn't become a
pandemic.
A pandemic is unlikely now because there is no large-scale war with mass concentrations of people in
small areas, plus the medical care available today is incredibly advances compared to 90 years ago.
But it's still possible because there are three times as many people on the Earth now, many living
in crowded cities and metropolises, and a carrier could travel worldwide within hours now, not the
weeks it took in World War I.
A single carrier of a lethal disease could travel anywhere in 12 hours (two locations, the start and
end), and dozens of people in each of those locations spreading the disease to thousands within 48
hours. In a week, it could become millions of people and a worldwide pandemic. It's not likely to
happen, but only the foolish say it can't happen. Look how far and how fast SARS travelled the
world a few years ago.
There's a difference between being cautious and being paranoid. The medical profession is cautious,
while the media is paranoid (or at least, fomenting paranoia to keep people watching during the
advertisements). Start listening to the doctors instead of the media whores whose job it is to
keep you watching. |

First of all, there are now two confirmed deaths in the US due to the swine flu. I believe concern
is prudent, but panic is not necessary. The rapid spread of this virus indicates that it will
likely result in many more deaths outside of Mexico, however, every year millions of people world
wide die from influenza. People with deficient immune system, children and the elderly are
generally the ones who die as a result of influenza. The fact that the swine flu is actually a
mutation of the swine flu, the avian flu and several human viruses makes it unique, but something
that has been expected for quite a while.
There is also an economic concern due to the spread of the virus. Our economy was in an upward
swing and it is possible that this could have adverse consequences economically.
I think that there are some people who overreact to this, however, it is quite easy to cause alarm
with the media coverage. I am not personally alarmed, however, I am concerned because my mother has
cancer and has recently completed a course of chemotherapy. She is at risk and would likely die
from complications of this virus, but she would have the same problems with many viruses and
bacterial infections. We have access to drugs like Tamiflu. I don't think that the outcome of an
outbreak of the swine flu here will be much more severe than that of many strains of influenza. |

Not exactly i mean, its spreading all throughout the world and its so easy to spread it and it could
infect the world. |
