The idea is okay. I strongly believe that you can't substitute a real education, however. Imagine
that you're a business owner looking for someone to manage one of your shops. You have two choices:
The kid that went to high school and graduated or the kid that took some online courses. Which would
you choose? |

According to my point of view online schools can not be as much effective as normal school. Though
the idea is quite good and its popularity is increasing day by day but from my personal choice I do
not want to vote for it. I think these online schools can be proved good enough for those matured
and older students only. The little children who are usually left alone in their home by their
working parents in front of a computer can not be able to have many lessons by this online
schooling. They do not get the proper knowledge by the online schools. This is because of the
teachers who run those schools as they do not have the proper capability of how to handle those
children. And what I feel that there would be some lack of commitment works to create the problem. |

Online schools are doing more damage to students than good. I believe that online schools are better
fit for mature, responsible people such as college students or for working adults. Today, there are
many online elementary, middle and high schools. These young students are generally left home alone
all day to complete school while their parents go off to work. These young students are left without
guidance and support. They have the option of contacting their online teacher, but from experience,
I can tell you that most online elementary, middle, and high school teachers do not have the time to
deal with the students. Most of them have too many students on their roster. When I taught online
school, I had 1200 students at one time. With the current set up of most online schools today, they
are very ineffective for younger learners. I believe they are effective for older, most responsible
and mature learners. |

I do not believe that online high schools are very effective. Although, the idea of an online high
school is great idea, the fact is that many of them are operated by people who do not have the
proper credentials to run a school. Most of the administrators and teachers do not know how to teach
online and have little or no training; and as a result, the students do not learn the information
they need to know for standardized tests and for overall success. Most online schools in the USA are
very poorly operated and many students do not pass classes or tests. If they could get qualified
staff, the idea of an online high school would be really good. Sadly, many online schools are in the
business for profit and educating the students comes second to making money. Unqualified people
focusing on a high school for profit is why so many students fail in online high schools. So, I
would say that is why they are so ineffective at educating students. |

I'm very torn on this. For most students it's a very bad Idea. I'm a 16 year old in 10th grade. I'm
taking an online Science course, because I don't have enough block in my High School Career because
I'm taking two programs (Law Enforcement and Digital Art) which take two full years to complete all
together. I how ever am very motatived and love learning. So for me It's an ok thing. Actually I
love it a lot more, because at the school i go to everyone is very disturbed, and I end up not
learning a lot of stuff.
HOWEVER, for most people it is a very bad idea. You can get behind very easily, you have to be
self-motivate and it is known that American kids don't really pride themselves enough in school to
be motivated.
You have to semi teach yourself. If you don't get something you need to email the teacher and wait
two days or so to get a reply and then getting the paper in late.
So online schools are a good thing for those who can handle the work, and are self motivated. It is
a bad idea if the student isn't. I know when i first started I was very nervous, because I always
thought it wasn't the best idea but I need the credit so i took it, I'm glad I did because I'm
learning more then I would have in my High School. |

I'm not sure about this but I don't think they can be ineffective for all students.
Nothing is as effective as being with a group of other students under the direction of a good
lecturer but some potential students don't have the access to the traditional environment of
study.
One example of distance learning that has worked is the Open University were millions have benefited
from being able to study from home.
I don't know what age groups online high schools cater for but I could see problems for young people
committing themselves to a prescribed amount of unsupervised study. However some students would find
that they could also take some employment whilst studying and this would help them then go onto
higher education.
I wouldn't like to see online education do away with traditional schooling as standards would drop
and young people miss out on their interaction within the learning environment. However for those
who couldn't attend formal institutions, perhaps for health reasons the online system could work.
It might also benefit people in isolated areas. One solution to isolated study would be to have
regular meetings with tutors and study groups and seminars. |
