Animals Don't Have The Same Rights As Humans.
Even looking at this from a religious point of view, God intended for man to have dominion over the animals, and control them.

I agree. That doesn't mean we have any right to abuse them in any way, but we do have the right to use them for our benefit (if we really need it).

No they don't - they don't need to, animals are usually better protected by our conciounces than other people.

We are superior to animals and therefore should be able to treat them how we please.A lion kills a gazelle because it can and because it nourishes it just like we kill animals because we can and for hunting.Oh, and foxwolf, sure your dog may outsmart a 4 year old but will be outsmarted by a 7 year old.

Humans are superior to animals. We are smarter and have opposable thumbs, so therefore we get to control animals.

I agree. There seems to be some belief that just because we are sentient, that some how entitles us to have more rights than animals. For example, scientists gladly tried 277 times just to produce one cloned sheep. However, if you start talking about human cloning suddenly everyone objects.

I think that animals are like humans we are both animals right? Its just humans are more sophisticated than animals and we humans should not take it out on animals!

What is this about? The attitude that humans are superior or Anything or Anyone is superior to another is ridiculous. God made everything equal, doesn't want to control anything, the human ego does. I think animals are much more together. They don't complain about everything, no agenda, no greed or hatred. Humans just think God thinks like they do. That's why our planet is doomed. Humanity needs Humility.

What you said was very logical, but shouldn't you have put it on against?

Very true indeed, animals are there for the humans to benefit from, but this does not mean that we treat them any different to how we treat our brothers and sisters because they too are living beings and deserve their independence and respect.

Humans have dominion over every other species on the planet. We are the ones with consciousness, the ability to make tools, more advanced hunting techniques, a soul (if you take the Christian point of view, which I don't but am merely pointing out) and in this position we can do whatever we want with animals. Obviously, I am against downright animal cruelty, but if we have to test on animals to develop a groundbreaking medicine that will save thousands of lives then I wouldn't have any qualms about it.

I work at a local zoo, I've gone from the Reptile Room into being one of many people who care for the chimps. They use rocks to crush different types of nuts, they use sticks to get at insects that we put in the fake trees. They are incredibly intelligent animals who can perform complex tasks.

Great point there carl, animals don't have the same rights as us. They can't even voice their own opinion. The needs of humans as superior beings are much greater than that of animals.

Others can speak for them. What need? To destroy everything they see, to kill everything they see. We are apart of nature, we need it to survive ourselves. We are animals to, and if we put ourselves first all we are doing is destroying ourselves.

Humans are just animals who happened to evolve larger brains than everything else while other animals evolved to be faster, stronger, etc.

We really can't say that we are superior because when it comes right down to it, a bear is gonna destroy you if you have no machine guns in your hands.

Animals shouldn't have ridiculous rights like the right to vote, but they should have a right to live and be left alone.

But you forget - we put the machine guns in our hands. And besides, who is better physically does not make them superior.

No! Many people think that we evolved anyway, and if we evolved then they are more important because they were first and we are a form of them.

Oops meant to put on other side

As an atheist and passionate animal lover I believe that animals not only have rights, but deserve the same respect and rights that a human being does. Were all here on this little sand grain of a planet on a huge beach called the universe, why do humans think they are the most important. If anything all other animals are far more important to this planet then our species is. What have we contributed to the up keep of this planet?

Animals have some rights, but not the same as us. We are the dominant species.

Animals have just as much rights as human. God did not intend for man to have domination over animals. He did not have intentions for man to have domination over anything in life. Animals are perfectly capable of living on their own without human assistance. No human has the right to harm or kill an animal. Only God can decide who lives and who dies. Animals do have rights and that is why they have developed groups such as the ASPC who protect and uphold the rights of animals. I am not an animal activist, but I do believe that animals have rights and should be treated with respect at all times.

"God did not intend for man to have domination over animals"

Well...

"Rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air and over every living creature that moves on the ground." - Genesis 1:28

Sorta disproves your point there...
