I personally enjoy a good old fight with melee weapons, whether they are fight choreographed or real
duels in sports such as fencing (although that wouldn't be considered "ancient") I find that there
can be more beauty and skill in close combat.
Fighting with guns just has a very 'detached' feeling, to some extent, shooting someone with a gun
makes you feel much more 'easy' about killing than stabbing someone up close and personal. (note: I
am NOT endorsing murder or violence here)
A bullet in the brain kills instantly. A wound to the abdomen takes days to kill, especially at a
time when there were no doctors, no painkillers aside from alcohol, and no chance of survival.
Take a knife in the stomach sometime and see how it feels.
So you're saying ancient weapons don't kill instantly.
Does a blow to the head by a mace kill instantly?
Does a bullet to the abdomen kill instantly?
Come on.
You have a much better chance with a gun. The one man said karate, the other man said 45, bam! Give
me a gun any day of the week. You can be a safe distance from the man with a sword or a knife. Also
a gun is quicker; more humane.
Yes, I've always been a fan of medieval weaponry. However, it depends on what you mean by "cool".
There was a lot more blood and ghastly wounds on the battlefield than there is today. So I would
rather be shot with a gun and die instantly than be slowly hacked away by some lethally sharpened
sword.
