American soaps are rubbish. The characters are fake looking and from what I've seen and heard the
storylines are boring.
If you're looking for interesting soap operas I'd recommend Coronation Street, Eastenders and
Emmerdale. These soaps are very entertaining and the characters are far more fun and natural
looking. There are many storylines in these soaps that involve characters sleeping with other
characters, but the outcomes are very entertaining! |

Yes, American soap operas are pretty awful and most storylines consist of the same old, rehashed
nonsense. As a child, my babysitter would make me sit through hours of these, including the
neverending "Another World" and "General Hospital". One of the problems with these American soaps is
that they often fail to portray real, ordinary people. How often do you see soccer moms on soaps, or
fathers who drive SUVs, pick up their lunch at McDonald's drive-thru restaurants, on their way to
pick up their son up from soccer practice? Most of the characters on US soaps are ultra trendy,
wine-drinking urbanites, with fancy condos and lots of class. Their world could not be further from
the one inhabited by the majority of suburban and small town Americans who shop at Walmart.
If you want soaps with real people, just see if you can catch a few British shows. The Brits seem to
have a real talent for gritty dramas, like Coronation Street and East Enders. While the storylines
are just as bad (actually, they are probably worse, including a really nasty one about a son's
affair with his stepmother) than those in American soaps, I guarantee that you won't find too many
glitzy and glamorous wine-drinking snobs on Coronation Street. This show is British working class at
its best, and fifty percent of the characters work at the local sweatshop. |

They really are. I used to follow Days of Our Lives daily, but as time goes on, it is basically the
most drug out story line and some kind of corny drama is always unfolding. It does not keeo you
interested at all. Then if you look at that show Passions, it is even more lame. |
