Boy, have you opened up a can of worms!
A British woman told me she was baffled by fanatical Christianity in the U.S. She said that in
England, only little old ladies go to church, and religion is a private matter.
It seems to me that only in the U.S. Could the concept of “born-again Christian” take root. I
believe it is because Americans have much more to feel guilty about: Our unbridled materialism,
soaring divorce rate, rape of the environment, hypocrisy on sexual abstinence, lack of quality time
spent with our families.
Note also that the “televangelist” movement began here. We simply have too much money, and
Christians need to “buy their way into heaven.” We are amused, not outraged, when we discover
that our donations have gone into a prostitute’s pocket or shady business deals. This is yet
another example of how deeply depraved U.S. Culture is … |

I don't think it's particularly funny, it's scary that people can be so utterly ignorant, and not
only just ignorant, but self-imposed ignorance. How can people just turn their brains off and
believe on an entirely emotional basis and not even be able to recognize they're doing it?
It's not just Americans either, it happens worldwide. There are recent stories about a Russian
doomsday cult, African witchdoctors murdering albinos so they can perform rituals and sell their
organs, even the story from a day or two ago about Congo sorcerers cursing men so their members
shrink. And people BELIEVE THIS NONSENSE! |

While I do agree with you that some religious peoples are a little off their nut, to put it lightly.
I disagree with the notion that it is put off on Americans only, I'm an American and am athiest, and
I know several other people around me who are athiest. |

Bertand Russell once said that communism objected to the catholic church not because they were so
different, but because they were so similar.
The same can be said of American fascism and islamic fascism. |

I find it quite depressing that so many people can believe such utterly laughable things even in the
face of incredible amounts of evidence against those beliefs. It doesn't say much for mankind, much
less for America. |

It is shocking. Frightening even, when you take into account these fruitloops are the ones with the
power in the world's most powerful nation.
We have all seen and laughed at insane American fundamentalists on TV in this country but I really
didn't realise so many Yanks could be that ignorant. We have a few in England but a few makes them
harmless loonies. When they are many and powerful that makes them dangerous. |

Yes, this is true. It's quite shocking to see how primitive their world view is; how limited their
understanding of so many major issues is; and how important a part of their lives superstition still
is.
It's even more shocking when you think it is people just like them who have put George Bush in the
White House. They are not fringe figures whose views will never find serious political
representation, comparable to, say, BNP members in Britain. On the contrary, their mindset is
reflected in the ruling regime. Theirs is exactly the kind of mentality which has been guiding the
world throughout this decade. Wonder why we've seen a return to medieval practices like torture and
aggressive war? Perhaps because many Americans are still medieval in their outlook.
In some ways it's almost as scary when some of them turn out to oppose Bush. That means that even
the political opposition in America shares the same basic outlook, showing there is just no real
hope for serious redemptive change in American politics. |

It's sad that anyone is deceived, both "Christians" and others. |

WOW. You sure have LOT of prejudices against so many groups of people.....must be sad.
I hope things go better for you, I really do.
Personally? I think it is wrong to hate ppl and run ppl down just because they subscribe to
beliefs/religions other than your own.
It's the differences that make this site interesting.
I would hate to live in a bland beige/gray world where everyone thought exactly like me. I like
debate; .......;-) |

What's funny to me is that atheists are normally the first ones to call names and attach labels, and
not just on here. Christians tell others of their beliefs because we want everyone to get saved /
go to Heaven. If you decide that it isn't for you, that's your choice, and I certainly won't force
you to believe at the tip of the sword.
Which brings up a question: Why don't atheists attack Muslims, since Islam is a modern religion that
says "Convert or die." I'm an independent, fundamental Baptist, and my church and others like us
don't want anyone to convert because of compulsion, but only from conviction. If you don't, that's
up to you.
By the way, most Christians that defend their beliefs have thought long and hard about why they are
believers and, yes, we take God on faith. But atheists take that there is no God on faith.
If I am wrong and there is no God, what have I lost? But if you are wrong and there is a God, what
have you lost? |

I don't think that it is just Americans who post all of these religious beliefs on this site. There
are many Brits on here who post plenty of beliefs. Basically, if you do not like it, you do not have
to read it. After all, the IS a debate site and religion is an excellent topic to debate because of
the fact that there are many different beliefs. If you do not like to discuss religion, then why do
you post things about it? Just skip them if you don't like them and you will be okay. There are
plenty other non-religious posting on here also. |
