America Prefers Ice Cream As Comfort Food Over Chocolate
It's true. Even chocolate ice cream is better comfort food than chocolate.

Judging from the people I see milling around the Haagen Daz freezer at the store, I think you're right. The chocolate doesn't seem to move nearly as fast. Besides, chocolate is supposed to contain a "love chemical" but not necessarily a comfort component.

I personally prefer ice cream, and the state in the Midwest where I grew up was a major consumer of ice cream, but I don't know what the national figures will show.

I think a little kid faced with the choice of running to an ice cream truck or running to a counter to buy a candy bar would choose the ice cream. And after Little League baseball games the coach and kids don't head for a candy machine reward, they head for ice cream.

I really do not know. I suppose chocolate sales can be compared to Ice Cream sales to find out. Personally, I prefer quality chocolate as a comfort food. I have had dreams of swimming through a chocolate lake...kinda like Willy Wonkas factory...lol I have even considered going to those bridal shows with the continuously flowing chocolate fountains just so I can get a cup of it to drink! And I am a man! I am sure my cover charge will cover the amount of chocolate I can devour.

 That's true but there are faux ice cream mimics which don't have lactose - like Rice Dream. There's also Lactaid ice cream. And some people with only mild lactose problems can handle yogurts including frozen yogurt.
