I believe that many countries have been thrown off track because of religious idiots. I agree |

I'm please by the variety of reasons for and against - actually all of which make great points.
Scorpion - Yes we are over-run by prejudice, hatred, and ignorance. Finsch - yes there are schemers
using religious issues to divide and conquer. Rbetan - I too agree with the overall idea behind
this eelmonkey post.
I'll put it this way... Religious issues can always be ONE of the issues considered in politics and
government, but it should NOT have become THE front-line driving force in it. There is something
unnerving about a country claiming to be the land of the free but in which large segments of the
population are gleefully pushing to restrict, judge, and punish other large segments of the
population. Frankly the attack on civil liberties in this country is not coming from atheists, it's
not coming from moderates, it's clearly a mix of religious far-right and ultra-conservatives. |

I strongly disagree with this comment the way it is put.
But i agree with the overall idea that it is conveying.
America is not being over-run by religious idiots. America was funded by religious idiots from its
very beginning, and the claim that there is separation between church and state falls into one of
the many hypocrisies in which we believe as a nation.
Now, DONT MISS INTERPRET when i say that it was "America was founded by religious idiots"; when I
say this I am not referring to the founding fathers, they were very smart man indeed and ahead of
their time.
When I say this, i am referring to the pilgrims and their culture which is founded on the
hypocrisy and irrationality of puritanism overall.
**as evidence of their irrationality we have the famous which hunts, that were so popular among
them.
**as evidence of their hypocrisies we have the fact that they did not hesitate to basically commit
genocide against the real AMERICANS, that is the natives.
But the main problem is that the irrationality of our foundations and the hypocrisies of that
culture is still very much alive in our culture, and in our politics very much so.
**as evidence of the hypocrisy we have the issue of gay marriage, everybody cares more about the
sanctity of marriage that of marriage itself. It does not matter how many people get divorce but
how many people get married and what type of people get married.
**as evidence of the irrationality we have the fact that we care more about gay marriage than the
economy, health care, taxes, technology or any other socio economical issue that is more relevant in
the present
so yes America is full of religious idiots, but the politicians are neither of those things, they
aren't religious at all, and much less idiots, since they use the religious idiots to enrich their
friends and themselves.
So no, president Bush is not an idiot.! Indeed he is a very very clever man, might not be an
academic, but he is not an idiot, much less religious.
The American public are the religious idiots. BIG TIME.

I don't think America is being over-run by religious idiots. I do believe people are concerned
about the fact that NObama has Muslims in his family. This is a legitimate concern considering we
are at war with Islamic extremists. I'm not saying he should be excluded because of that but I am
saying it is something that should be investigated before he receives the nuclear codes.
It doesn't matter to me because I wont vote for him because he voted against the bill to protect
babies that survive abortions. He voted rather to let me die in a trash can. That's plenty of
reason not to vote for NObama. |

Way over simplifying things on this page.
Actually, if the religious right combined with the Catholic Church (which is alot more power than
the religious right) truly had such clout, abortion would not be and would not have been anywhere
near legal in the US. They consider it murder. Murder is a really bad thing.
Most of the overblown movements in the US government are caused by everyone trying to protect their
interest. For every decision made, someones interest is threatened.
I want to protect dust. The Supreme Court decides I have the constitutional right to protect dust.
But my protecting dust weakens the dustmop industry. The dustmop industry does everything it can to
impede my success protecting dust. So now, it's not good enough that I get to protect dust. I have
to get more legislation to make sure that the dustmop industries efforts do not end up in the
Supreme Court 8 years from now and a decision is made to overturn my right to protect dust. This is
unending. When things swing my way, through all the efforts of dust protectors, dust has 10 times
the protection it needs. When the tide turns, dustmops have 10 times the protection they need.
You can blame the people. I suppose they should protest and demand sensibility. Then again, there
are a lot of posts on this site which suggest that the masses are stupid compared to the smart folk.
So if the masses decided, things might be worse.
It's rare to get 5 people on this planet to agree which song to listen to, let alone run a country
the size of the US.
We can blame religion. What they heck. Religion deserves it. Then again, we don't get many reports
on the charity work done by churches around the world. Not much reported on how many teens spend
their Friday or Saturday nights at church functions.
We can blame conservatives for being too conservative and forcing liberals to go way over the top
and vice-versa.
We could run for office. They only way we could get in is to raise money at an insane rate. The only
way to do that is to make promises to people with money. The political process is money. Politicians
can never stop trying to raise money for their campaigns and their causes.
To make blanket statements about politics in 2008 is ludicrious. We are talking about something that
is monstrous. The causes and effects are beyond imagination. Any idea how much research it would
take to trace the effects of a tax cut throughout the entire system? It would take years.
Think you can control it with a group of evil men? Not a chance. With religion? No way. It is it's
own universe. |

My problem with this statement is that implies this is just a process of random mob social pressure.
In fact this has all been a carefully orchestrated attempt to divide and control the American
population by people that couldn’t give a hoot about religion. I live in a place called Kansas,
you may have heard about a school board that removed evolution from the curriculum, it was rather
infamous at the time. What you never heard was that it involved a lot of outside money and people
who actually moved to the area just to get on the board. You also don’t hear that within a couple
of months all the ringers were voted off the board and evolution was immediately reinstated back
into the curriculum. America is not being overrun by religious idiots it’s being manipulated in a
cold calculated fashion by people who use religion as their weapon. Frankly if I was religious I
would be furious that my belief system had been co-opted in an attempt to degrade the bedrock of
diversity and freedom that supposed to be the strength of America and Americans. |
