I agree with grenache but the styles are getting less distinct. "There was the 60's. Then 70's then
80's then 90's Then people wanted REAL." Have you seen that commercial? |

Maybe where you live, but music is generally a point where everyone splits into "preference
factions" if you will. |

I suppose, but there's always that 1% difference, or however many percentage of difference that
makes the categories separate. |

Not really. You couldn't confuse a goth with a chav by any means. |

I dont think styles merge into one, but there has always been a form of conformity to all teenage
"rebels".
They all conform to something. I know a few old bikers who consider themselves non-conformists, but
to look at them, they all have the same haircut, the same dress sense, they conform to an image.
Punk was the same, a breakout of music, style and attitude from the norm of the day, which bred new
bands with the same sounds and a uniform in the style they dressed in.
Everything is stolen and assimilated into a form of conformity.
Im afraid Grenache, we are almost borg.
The original Hells Angels were non-conformists in every way. Dangerous and anarchic. And by accounts
such as Hunter S Thompsons, thoroughly repulsive.
I would say to my local bikers, you wanna be a non conformist, head to the TT on a pink Harley
wearing high heels, a three piece suit and a Sikhs headress.
Mind you, probably already been done. |

Nah this is the endless cycle of societal existance. There's always "the norm" as well as a handful
of fringe or special interest groups, the norm becomes boring so gradually people adopt traits or
styles or behaviors they like from the more interesting groups, then THAT becomes "the norm", but
then yet newer fringe and special interests groups change it up all over again.
If what you say is true we would have become a unified 'Borg' of a culture many years ago. |
