Most people are going to do it if its against the law or not. If there is not any hate
crimes, burglary, rape, vandolism, or assault being done, or noted on ones criminal record then let
them do what they want to themselves. If they want to be that way and they are not bothering anyone
else by doing so then why should we want to change how they want to be or how they are. Alot of
people are probably one drugs that we talk to everyday and we probably don't even know that they are
under the influence. I don't think that its effective putting a bad name on some people that
actually do get up and go to work everyday that do drugs. Its the ones that are breaking the laws of
crimes that are effecting others around them in a bad or hurtful way that give drugs such a bad
name. I think most people are going to do bad things with or with out the drugs. If they have a
history of actual crimes then that person has lost his/hers right to it. I don't think every person
should be considered a criminal if they do or have done drugs. |

No other measure to control drugs has really had any effect so it has to be worth a try. How can it
be argued against anyway, when drugs like alcohol and tobacco are freely available and perfectly
legal. |

Yes, all drugs should be legalized. Vast numbers of people die through taking drugs. Mostly they die
because the drugs are impure, however, not because of the drugs themselves. So if you're really
concerned about saving lives, legalizing drugs is the way to do it. Once the drugs are legal, they
can be sold through shops where drug quality standards are applied, ensuring drug users always get
high grade material.
The drug issue is really no different from the mountain climbing issue. Many people go mountain
climbing each year. Most of them enjoy it. A few get killed in the course of climbing the mountains.
So should mountain climbing be banned? Of course not. We accept that an adult has the right to
voluntarily engage in risky activity. So why should it be different with drugs?
The illegality of drugs warps our entire society. Vast public resources are used to investigate and
prosecute this illegality. These resources could be better employed elsewhere. Terrorists are also
able to finance their operations through harvesting and smuggling drugs. If drugs were legal,
terrorists would have this crucial source of support removed. |

Propagating the idea that drug use is acceptable will ultimately damage our society. Drugs ruin
lives. They ruin your health, they seriously screw your mind up (i think cannabis has been linked to
schizophrenia but i may be wrong there). Faith that the general population can be trusted to use any
substance responsibly is very much misplaced. Also, i really see no benefit in allowing the use of
drugs and by making them seem less harmful their devastating effects will be more widely felt (an
example of this would be the reclassification of cannabis in the UK) |

Anyone who has to inject, smoke, snort or otherwise ingest an illicit substance in order to feel
good about themselves has serious problems and needs professional psychological help, period. |

While I am vehemently opposed to paternalistic laws, I think that many people need them. All drugs
have been legal at some point, and they were banned because of the abuse and addiction that followed
their use (just look at the development of heroin and how it was used in early 20th century
America).
I certainly think some drugs should be legalized because they don't pose any more threat than
alcohol or cigarettes, but highly addictive and dangerous substances shouldn't be that easily
accessible. |
