If both parties involved are 18 or older, you're absolutely right.
Huge age gaps are a bit disturbing, but I can't find any reason why it would be justifiable to sit
in judgement of a happy 70 year old and 28 year old, when to sit in judgement of a happy gay couple
is so condemned. They're both disturbing, but judging it is wrong, right?
As far as children go, (anyone under 18), if you don't like the law, when you're old enough, do your
part to change it. What you will find is that by the time you're of age to do so, you'll likely
agree with it more than you do now.
That said I wasn't aware it was against the law for a 14 and 17 year old to be in love? Where is
this? |

No.
There is something called an Age Of Consent. I would very highly recommend that. |

If I were 16 again, when I thought I was mature enough to make sound decisions and believed I knew
it all, then I would agree with you. However, being 30 something...;-)...and knowing what I know
now through the building of lifes experiences, I do not agree. Age does matter. In fact, it
matters a great deal, especially when you are talking gaps in generations.
Well...it matters to me. |

If you are not old enough to realize that sex does not equate "love" then you are not old enough for
either. Love is not, nor has it ever been illegal.
Please kids --- grow out of this mentality now! It is so sad to know that kids these days don't
know the difference in love and sex!!! This is not the first thread or debate that has made this
abundantly clear. Drop the idea please! Sex is not love and love is not sex. |

It does matter.
The only time it doesn't matter is when it comes to like swearing, just because your 51 doesn't mean
its OK to say the f word |

Age does matter.. Like if a 30 year old was in love with a 70 year old.. Isn't that wrong though?
But i don't See a problem with a 16 year old going out with someone just a few years older like a 19
year old.. Because i do but when the ages are hugely different i think its wrong. Its not wrong to
love.. But the age matters unless your happy for a lot of people to disapprove of it. |

Age does Matter otherwise you would see 60-80 odd year old, turning up at Adventure World with
their 21 year old boyfriends and girlfriends, all the time. Can you imagine them white water
rafting. |

So it's OK for 34 year old men to "love" 14 year old girls? Nah. |

If we accept your central claim that age doesn't matter then Pedophiles and NAMBLA can take that
principle to the next level to justify their actions. I'm against that.
So then if we impose an age restriction the question is what age. Now I do think when high school
kids are having sex with other high school kids it's messed up when they later get slapped with
statutory rape charges when it was consensual. BUT a line has to be drawn somewhere. I still feel
16 for consent to sex and 18 for marriage sound about right and those are the most common age limits
I'm aware of anyway. I wouldn't change a thing. |

I disagree. 14 is way too young to know what true love it. It is true that age does not matter if
you are older than 18. Many teenagers think they know what love is, but the truth is that one does
not understand what love is until they are older and have experienced it in a couple of different
ways. If someone who is in their 30s is in love with someone in their 40s or 50s, then that is okay.
However, anyone younger than 18 is way too young to know what love is or how to handle it. |

The laws that prohibit young children from dating older kids are for their (the younger kid's)
protection. Predators usually target younger kids, and if you aren't old enough kids often think
they are more mature than they are. I definitely thought I was more mature than I was.
Anyway, nothing wrong with being in love. |
