I am against it in it's current form. When I was a young kid, I did not understand what welfare was.
What I did see were kids that brought shiny new things to school. Kids that had brand new clothes.
Kids that had all of the latest toys. I would beg my parents and they would tell me no, you do not
need these things. I would get new things when I needed them, or for special occasions. It was
always reasonable and according to what my parents could afford. Some of the kids that had more
things was simply because their parents had more money than mine, others however, were welfare
recipients. When I was in high school I got my first job. I worked at a grocery store. I checked out
people's groceries and was appalled to see people pull out their WIC checks and then ask me to ring
up a carton of cigarettes. Even watched shocked at times, as they would put back food for their kids
so they could afford the cigarettes. My experience today with welfare is not much better. I see
people my age who receive unemployment checks, food stamps, you name it and are doing absolutely
nothing to change it, even turning down advancements at their jobs so they can continue to receive
the same amount of aide. I was at the store with a friend, I offered to buy some juice, to which she
responded "Oh don't worry we have food stamps." We were going to drink the juice. It was not going
to her children. The statement offended me because I believe that food stamps should be used in the
way that they were intended to be used. Other people I know who are my age and on welfare have
absolutely no qualms with having children or in most cases, more children, which they obviously will
not be able to support and will be teaching them to be complacent with government aid. I do not
believe it is impossible for someone on welfare to turn their current situation into one that does
not require aide. However, I see a growing need for welfare as people on it, have more kids and
their kids learn the system, as people who are not on it wait to have kids until they can afford it,
only have as many as they can afford, and teach their kids the value of education and good work
ethic. |

Well if you believe it, then you believe it... I cannot dispute what YOU believe. I could vainly
attempt such a cause. I wonder if that'd be good practice... |

Me too. I don't believe in taxing successful people to give the money to people who don't work.
This government should protect individual success and failure equally. People have the right to
fail and die off. It's called survival of the fittest and no matter how much you punish the
successful people the unfit will not survive. All welfare has done is created a new system in which
people who are fit for the welfare system survive and others die off still. It has only warped
natural law, not prevented it or cured it in the least.
I believe in a wealthy person's right to give charity. The more taxes people pay the less charity
they can give. |

I sure am! Our government is all about training these people to live in poverty and they in return
have children who grow up to believe that the government should pay their way. Several generations
of this and we have more and more slobs and drug addicts in the system every year. If people only
knew how many live off the government, they would see the problem. Instead, they pretend there is
no problem while hiding behind all the "they can't help it" excuses which only fans the flames of
this already out of control problem. |

Here are some myths that a lot of the people on the other side of the debate seem to have:
Myth: A Huge Chunk of My Tax Dollars Supports Welfare Recipients
Fact: Welfare Costs 1 Percent of the Federal Budget
Myth: Poverty Results From a Lack of Responsibility
Fact: Poverty Results From Low Wages
Myth: People on Welfare Become Permanently Dependent on the Support
Fact: Movement off Welfare Rolls Is Frequent

Welfare exists to help those who do not make enough at their job to buy food, pay rent, pay
utilities and usually daycare, diapers and so on. It helps single moms more than you know. It is not
a lot of moms choice to be on their own with a child or two. And supplying all these things for
three is not easy with one check. Welfare also helps those who are disabled and cannot work. It
helps many who truly need it. It is a must to have a program like this for the needy to survive.
Granted, a lot of people do take advantage of the system which is a shame, but for the most part,
people would not run the circles they make you run in unless they truly need the help. |

I do not like welfare, and think there is A LOT of abuse of the system, but at the same time, it
does have a legitimate purpose. It can not be eliminated all together.
And by the way, next time you start a debate, you might want to read what you have written before
you post it. |

I am ashamed and pity you. Many people need welfare and can't live without it. I do hope if you ever
need medicare then you will take this down. |

I'm presuming from your very badly written motion motion and explanation that you are against people
receiving money from the government to keep them alive without working.
There are some situations where such money is most definitely necessary, although perhaps the
individual's state of life should be taken into account. |
