It worked for SOME, just not all, and the immediate need for it in the days following the end of
segregation has likely passed. Clearly there are some doctors, lawyers, teachers, etc., who come
from poor minority backgrounds and were able to get their schooling admission and scholarships due
to affirmative action. So you can't say it "never worked". I would NOT argue with you however if
you claimed it's justification has passed by now, the US is not the same place as the days of
segregation, and now it's sad when better qualified applicants are turned away because a certain
number of slots are held for special groups. |
