Acronyms Play A Huge Part In Peoples Social Lives.
LOL, ROFL, LMAO, OMG, WTF, OMFG.
How often are they used all over the internet? People even use them in actual conversations these days. Its rather funny.
I know I'm being pedantic, and I'm SO sorry, but I can't help myself: It's only an acronym if it is
pronounced as a word, like LOL. Anything else is an initialism, such as WTF or OMG.
My mom will say BURB and get up and leave the room. I thought she was belching and going to get an
antacid or something. When I figured out she was just going to go to the other room a second and
she meant be right back... I was needless to say taken aback. I learned manners from this woman
mind you. What happened to " Please excuse me for a moment."?
Crazy place. And she now has taken to thowing her head back and saying " LOL LOL LOL" instead of
actully laughing. I was almost scared enough to take her in for a CAT scan to see if HULU or
zombies had rotted or taken over her brain.
If she starts saying "eye dink" instead of " I don't know" I probably will check their property for
crop circles.
Hi Golfelda...that is almost too funny. I must confess, I have never actually heard someone substitute LOL for actual laughter, but it's kind of cute. I'm sure your mother's brain is alright. She is probably trying to "fit in" with the younger generation. Sometimes the things our parents say and do take us totally off guard since they are things they would have likely corrected us for when we were kids. I know my mother says some off the wall things from time to time and I think it's for the benefit of my kids. Still, to hear it makes me scratch my head and wonder where the strict discipiniarian went. She would ground me for a month for a C on a test. I was a good student but I have ADD. My sister was a wild one and got out of everything. Now, my mother pushes me to let my kids do things that she would never have let me do. If you find any evidence of alien life is responsible for your mother's new vocabulary, please let me know so I can have my mom checked out too : ) How have you been? Have a great day!
You right, but honestly it drives me bananas some times. The only two acronyms I use I used long
before there was an internet in any practical sense. G.Y.A.A.K.Y.A.G. And F.O.A.D. Neither of which
are appropriate for polite conversation.
K, so I got the second one...not too hard since it is only four letters. I am getting totally frustrated trying to decipher the first one. Do me a favor and gimme a hint in my shoutbox if you can't here. I truly will obsess over this all day until I get it. I am a word person (can't you tell?) and this is maddening : )
