I am doing a debate on how all schools should provide laptops and convert to all testing be
electronic and i need some answers so please help me. Thank You |
| |
| |
| |
They should be in school then we could look up more stuff and go on facebook youtube and all
that!!!!!! |
| |
| |
| |
Yes, they should be allowed because it is the next level of learning. You can do a lot more research
on a laptop than in an encyclopedia. |
| |
| |
| |
I think yes |
| |
| |
| |
Yes cuz i might get a dell Windows XP Laptop |
| |
| |
| |
Yes, it allows privacy and can stop people copying on each other, if they are used correctly then
yes they should have |
| |
| |
| |
Laptops should be aloud in school, even during classes to take notes. If you lose or get your laptop
damaged it is your problem. |
| |
| |
| |
Of course they should |
| |
| |
| |
I also agree |
| |
| |
| |
It would be helpful and good for the enviornment |

My oldest child uses his in his college classes every day.
I think there are many situations where they could be abused in an academic setting and they are not
really needed for many classes.
Now it would be cool if the schools had desks with built in keyboards and monitors that were set up
by the school and they would just save the work to their memory sticks to finish at home or during
study periods. |

I think that we should be able to use personal laptops in school. It saves a lot of paper and most
people can type faster than they write and for those who can’t, it’s a good way to learn. This
can also improve typing skills for future jobs. Students’ bags will be lighter as well, instead of
carrying like 7 huge textbooks all they need is one laptop. All you other people would think that
not all the students can be trusted with Internet during school but laptops can still be used
without Internet. If Internet is needed than students can use school computers or they can log on to
a school monitored website with the laptops so they can be tracked during school hours. All and all
I think it’s a good idea. |

Yes, because it will save alot of paper and pupil's bags
will be so much lighter |
| |
| |

I am a student and i say yes!! |
| |
| |
| |
Yes, Yes and... Oh yea YES! |
| |
| |
| |
Yes because you can save a lot of paper!!!!! |

Laptops are the future of education. Why hold back the students that are ahead of their time? |
| |
| |
| |
You can have laptops in my school! It is a good idea. |
| |
| |
| |
It would save tons of paper ;) |
| |
| |
| |
Definitely because people can type faster than they can write so if you need to make notes then it
would be easier to type it. |
| |
| |
| |
Laptops should be allowed because they are helpful for kids that need to research stuff fast :) |
| |

You mean they aren't ????.. |
| |
| |

I already have a laptop, and yes, it does improve my organisation a lot as well as making me do home
works better and other things as well, technology is advancing very quickly, being more up-to-date
today is essential, pretty much.

It would be pretty cool.
The little amount of computers we have at school are pretty awful.
And, I love my laptop. :] |
| |
| |
| |
We have them - its awesome u just play tetris all the time |
| |
| |
| |
It could be helpful to many... There are many times where we need computers, but don't have enough |
| |
| |
| |
Yes, but the student must log on to a school provided network so an administrator can always be
making sure that people are doing their work. |
| |
| |
| |
Every school I know have there own laptops! In my school it's kind of compulsory; it's definitely on
the KitList.
It doesn't mean that you HAVE to get one. For courseworks and homework assignments, it's easy to
use.
Because I am in a boarding school, it would be very noticeable if somebody lost their laptop. Also,
inappropriate sites are blocked so it's not like we're spending time on facebook or MySpace.
There are jobs out there which expect you to have basic computer skills and living in a developing,
technological world, a laptop is a pretty useful thing and therefore, should be allowed in schools. |
| |
| |
| |
YES as a student it would help me do work and take notes |
| |
| |
| |
I fink its a good idea, our school allows it nowadays, there are 2 sides to this debate however,
there are some great opportunities for learning etc. But at the same time there are some very
negative ideas, there are problems but then again there are solutions, however in my opinion the
learning benefits greatly outnumber the downfalls of the idea |

Laptops should be allowed, they aren't being mandatory, if you chose to bring your computer to
school, then it's your responsibility if it is damaged, stolen, what have you. Students would
benefit greatly from the help laptops could offer, word processing, encarta like research tools,
math applications, these all would help students succeed, especially be giving them the knowledge of
the updated world, where they will have to use them everyday. Students who drift off course should
be punished, they aren't there for pleasure, their there for work. |
| |
| |
| |
About the 'temptation to drift off': Well, kids also are tempted just as much to doodle, and it's
easier to catch them playing solitaire than it is to catch them sketching on a piece of paper.
I know that for me it would help since I would be able to take notes neatly and speedily, which I
normally can't do, since I have bad handwritting (fingers broken on several occasions into really
wierd shapes tend to do that to you) and I write slowly if my handwritting's at all legible. I could
also record lectures and take pics or vids of demonstrations and graphs and diagrams for later
reference, since I've got too bad of a memory in most cases to remember a lot of information if I
only hear or see it once or twice.
I also every year have this problem of my locker being on the other end of a very long hallway from
all my classes and in a particularly crowded area where everyone's always pushing each other. Having
a laptop would allow me to not need to stop at my locker and reduce the amount carried to class,
reducing hazard to myself. I've gotten hurt several times when sitting next to my locker so I can
get things in and out while being as small as possible when someone gets shoved over me or into a
section of locker next to or above me. Also things sitting on the floor as you take them in and out
tend to get kicked all over the place.
Kids at my school have non school appropriate things with them, anyways, such as pictures in print,
notes, and cellphones. A picture or note in print is actually easier to get rid of at school than
something on a laptop. Laptops keep memory. Trashcans don't.
Jewelry, books, items, etc can also be stolen. That's the kid's problem. If they're worried, then
they should take extra security measures, such as not having it out of their sight.
Internet can still be blocked, you know. |
| |
| |
| |
Of course it should be allowed. Maybe not for elementary schools but students in high school,
college & university should be 100% lap-top equipped, except when there is an exam or anything where
access to personal notes, Internet and textbooks would be unfair to those without lap tops. |
| |
| |
When we were assigned this project, I learned that laptops hinder your learning because most people
that use laptops in school get side tracted and do not listen to the teacher because they are
addicted to their games, facebook and/or scores in games or news. Fewer people actually uses laptops
for notes and school compared to the amount that uses them for games and other activities |
| |
| |
| |
I'd love to have a laptop in school, but kids are generally pathetic when it comes to grammar, so
they really need their mistakes to be pointed out to them, rather than auto-corrected.
Besides, most schools would want you to install some sort of restriction software anyway. |
| |
| |
| |
You never thought, what pupils do on laptops when teacher doesn't look? They can do everything! They
can play games, watch videos, simply surf the Internet. And I think,it is not safely to keep school
information on laptop. Students can delet their reports or say, that they have done homework, but
have delited it. |
| |
| |
| |
There have been several studies on laptops in schools, not a single one states that it has helped in
any way shape or form.
My daughters school has a laptop program, it has been nothing short of a mess costing parents
thousands. |

Why would someone even consider making this debate?? Laptops in schools are just plain stupid anyway
because people can get away with writing as little as possible. The computer does spell check and
everything for you which also means that people get lazy about their spelling. And we all wonder why
our education system is going to pot when you have people saying laptops should be allowed in
school?? Personal ones are even sillier because i'm sure everyone knows that the latest crazes are
things like msn and sites like bebo and facebook. Do any of you that have agreed seriously think the
kids would spend one moment doing their work when they could be talking to friends instead?? I think
not!! As a young person myself i can tell you that knowing that i would be able to go on msn or one
of my sites, would be all too tempting. I prefer not having access to it all at school because it
means i can concentrate on my work more and not get addicted. |

It depends on the context, but in most contexts I think a blanket ban would be preferable. Laptops
are fragile, easily damage and easily stolen. Having lots of them floating around is just a recipe
for endless trouble. Typing on them can also be quite noisy. If all children in a class were typing
on a computer while the teacher tried to talk, it could be hard to hear what was being said.
As Mackenzie says, there's also no guarantee that students will be using them for proper purposes.
In fact, if internet connections are made available, it can be virtually guaranteed that Instant
Messengers will be in constant use.
Given the widespread availability of webcams nowadays, there may well be privacy issues which would
need to be considered too, since students would easily be able to broadcast what was going on in
their classes if laptops were allowed.
If computers are required to learn the lesson properly, they should be provided by the school.
Permitting personal laptops would seem to introduce just another avenue for teenagers to vie with
one another by getting the latest cool thing, with all of the consequent unpleasantness that this
imposes on family budgets and distress among those whose families can't afford the latest cool
thing. |
| |
| |
| |
It'd just waste their time. And they'd be liable to getting mugged, getting damaged etc. |
| |
| |
| |
They shouldn't be allowed because there are always some kids who just mess around on their laptop
and some kids would be rich stealing other peoples laptops |
| |
| |
| |
No, they could interfere with learning. |

Obviously, you do not realize how many students would take advantage of this. It is a good idea when
it comes to research and studies, but too many people would abuse the privilege during class.
Non-stop instant messaging would take place. Besides, kids do enough texting on their phones during
class. Adding a laptop to the mix would just increase the problem ten-fold.
Also, if students brought their PERSONAL laptops, I can guarantee that many of them would be stolen
by the kids that do not own personal laptops. Not everyone has one, you know. |

As a general rule of thumb, laptops should not be allowed in schools. A given educational
institution should only permit the use of laptops if it feels that students are mature enough to use
these in a responsible way, and for educational purposes.
At most levels--including both junior high and secondary school--there is a huge risk that students
with laptops will be tempted to play solitaire, or other games, go online or engage in activities
unrelated to what is going on in the classroom.
I am a university lecturer and can speak from experience on this one. Even at the college
level--where students are over 18 years of age and usually pay for their education from their own
money--laptops are very distracting. Approximately 30% of the students in my class use them and my
teaching assistants, who sit at the back, have told me that many play solitaire, spend their time on
Facebook, or chat on MSN. The more daring ones may even watch a DVD and sit through the entire class
with their headphones on. The real problem is that when they do this the people sitting behind them
are distracted as well. |
