A Palin Presidency Would Be A Disaster
Her mind is a blank slate - a blank slate on which her advisers like Heinz Kissinger and the neocons would be able to inscribe all of their extremist fantasies. She would be Cheney in a skirt without the brains.

The simple fact of the matter (and this was blindingly revealed at the VP Debates) is that Palin would rather stroke the ego of the American people than come up with something concrete and detailed. Has anyone heard Palin speak recently? Most of her speeches are fluff, talking about how the U.S. Is the greatest country in the world and the American worker is the hardest worker in the world. She is basically riding the coattails of pseudo-patriotism and seeing how far she can get. I don't blame her though; I think it is a good strategy given her lack of political experience or her lack of being able to speak intelligently on the hot topics. I'm just saying she is not what we need for President. I technically don't think Obama or McCain are what we need for President either, but Palin is just trying to get votes by telling everyone how great they are. Not every "Joe Six-Pack" can control one of the superpowers.

It's essentially the most powerful position in the world, so if the responsibility were ever to fall into the hands of Palin, I'm pretty sure it would be a disaster. America needs someone to steer it away from fundamentalism, and promoting backwards right-wing views is a step in the wrong direction.

It wouldn't be the first time the USA had a president with a blank mind! Who runs the USA anyway? I'm sure it's not the president...;-)

Not for comedians. They'd LOVE the material.

And not for Bush. People would forget about him and it would improve his legacy.

But for the average American, it would be horrible. She would make a series of uninformed decisions that would run America into the ground.

The world is not ready for a fundamental extremist to be president. I agree that she'll try to make all her fantasies into a very dark reality for the rest the American people. As a Britian I agree with Evileye and truespud, that we would be horrified if that sort of woman were be the most powerful person in the world. These elections will be a show of America's intelligence , Obama being the smart choice, McCain being the wrong one.

She seems to be filled with such jingoitic rhetoric. Therefore people in Britain and the rest of world would be horrified if she were to become president.
I personally would jump into the nearest cave if she were president of USA.

I don't know about in the US, but it would appear that most British people (who actually know who she is) find her quite disturbing.

I don't think she's as big an idiot as her detractors point out (and I'm fully a supporter of Obama/Biden). But what I do believe is the Mcain/Palin leadership will be virtually identical to Bush's, will favor the wealthy over all others, and will gradually act upon the conservative views they both hold (new Supreme Court justices who are conservative; continued intrusion on civil liberties - except torture because I trust McCain would indeed end that). The tragedy of their Presidency isn't so much idiocy, it's a lack of change at a time when it's desperately needed. And frankly the rest of the world is watching to see if the American people have awakened from their own idiocy the last 8 years, and if we put McCain/Palin in office that will tell them "no." And I cannot disagree more with people on this site who flat don't care what the rest of the world thinks. Being hated by the world does NOT promote our security, it hurts it.

Sarah Palin is "out of it" and barely knows anything about the outside world. She knows almost nothing about international problems and relationships. She is also very naive and when interviewed, answers questions very childishly.

An Obama Presidency

The economic management plan of most administrations has relied upon innovation in the public sector, and has never grown due to government intervention, involvement or creativity. The mortgage debacle (a correction in all rights) coupled with energy speculators driving up the price of a readily available commodity (oil) and of course our continued war on terror (Iraq, Afghanistan & financial obligations in Asia, Europe, Africa & the Middle East) are all sucking funds from our 12 trillion dollar economy. Our tax burden today is 3.5 trillion USD, give or take several hundred million. The route we have taken by the current administration has not been popular, the President's popularity rating is pathetic, but is eclipsed only by today's congressmen and senators popularity that remained 10 points below Bush. I think we can all agree that the next sitting President will not be able to make sweeping changes with a limited budget.

OBAMA becomes President. Democrats become the majority n both houses. Republicans warn “Reform (change) is an expensive proposition.” President Obama will assess that the economy is worse than what he thought; the fault “the Republican party.” Obama with his fellow Democrats take drastic steps by creating yet another new stimulus package. Obama will pressure the Pentagon to get the troops home so the money spent on the war can help our domestic situation. Obama will then raise the corporate tax rates, as well as the taxes on the wealthy (any family making over $250K a year) as promised! That will not be nearly enough to fund his programs. So additional taxes will be raised in the energy sector (gasoline, natural gas, coal) he will offset that tax by providing incentive for alternative energy production and R&D for companies.

Another bailout plan (spreading the wealth) will be made for those people that did not qualify for a legitimate mortgage. And another bailout plan will be made for Detroit car makers, this decision is made because the car makers are being told that they have to develop smarter fuel efficient cars; this will cost billions so Detroit can stay competitive with the Japanese. The US Govt must act to save American made cars! A value added tax will implemented to punish those evil people that buy luxury goods, however we soon discover (much to our chagrin) that the VAT is added to all goods. So now we all have to pay, no matter ones tax bracket. Local Governments push for exemptions of the new VAT tax. Sin taxes for alcohol and tobacco will go up as they are the root of all evil.

Obama and his fellow Democrats despise the military and do not understand why we should have one; the money the pentagon spends is deemed as ridiculous and selfish and should be reduced if not eliminated. So the military will cut costs and personnel, VA programs will be capped and veterans groups will be convinced their Government abandoned them. Troops and bases will be withdrawn from several countries and domestic posts / bases will be left alone as individual state senators (democrats) see their existence a necessary evil.

The price of Obama’s healthcare plan will be seen as too expensive but a bill will pass anyway penalizing companies that do not provide healthcare benefits. Since healthcare benefits are no longer a choice; companies must provide them to their employees, this law impacts small businesses and a new record of bankrupt and closed private businesses soon follow. Funds will be taken away from research institutions so innovation and technology development will not provide tools to manage chronic disease.

The Obama education program is passed, too expensive but it passes anyway. Many private colleges opt out as they will elect not accept students from this program. Deans explain that lowering admissions and changing curriculums are not a good idea. The Obama plan requires fair modified curriculums to become more uniformed and lower the competitive nature of public colleges. Public colleges will also be mandated to discount the cost of tuition for this program. Students enrolled in this new program will have financial issues with the cost of books, and housing, so they will seek part time employment. Part time jobs will be required to offer full benefit packages under the new Democrat led employment act of 2009, so another phenomenon occurs when part time positions erode and die. The good news is that the number of college students enrolling will go up significantly due to Obama’s college program, but amazingly enough the graduation rate will not go up as many cannot pass their new standardized courses. This phenomenon will be attributed to lowering the admission policies and will cause private Colleges to lift their tuitions up, state and public colleges will dumb down their curriculum so more people graduate with academically attenuated degrees.

The prices of goods and services will go up due to the tax increases upon the suppliers, developers, and distributors. Interstate and intrastate commerce will encounter new toll and taxation costs for using outdated diesel trucks. Trucking is deemed as a major anthropological catalyst for global warming so due to layoffs in the trucking industry, country music will gain a new wave of music stars. Commerce will slow as companies tighten their belts. This fiscal conservative movement within companies medium and large (small business will become extinct) will require dropping the burden rates and unemployment will go up initially and then will slide in to 10% - 15% unemployment.

The layoffs that continue from the heavily taxed private sector will pressure the Democrats to create more Govt jobs. The word sacrifice will become meaningless in the Obama administration as it is used on a daily basis. This will happen during Obama’s 1st and only term as President.

It's almost over now. The leadership is the contest. If anything she is such a presence, and it has detracted from the two front runners.

I gotta ask... What's so bad about Cheney? It seems like so many people say that he's just out to take advantage of the poor and line his own pockets at everyone else's expense. Cheney donates a lot of his money to charity; $7,800,000 during his VP stint as of last year. He regularly gives at least half of his income to help the poor.

Obama and Biden have regularly given less than 1 percent of their income to help the poor. Obama and Biden want to help the poor by telling them what they can and cannot do and by stealing money from the rich; they want to use other people'smoney but not their own.

I got my problems with Cheney and Palin too, but at least I can state them intellectually using facts and logic... Not by hurling insults of a generalized nature.

To quote MerlinSoul: "I got my problems with Cheney and Palin too, but at least I can state them intellectually using facts and logic... Not by hurling insults of a generalized nature." Would you please state, using facts and logic, why you think a Palin Presidency would not be a disaster? I'm confused as to why you posted on this side of the debate as you only mention Palin in name. Thanks.

Anyone who has read my political posts, comments, and replies knows that I don't want McCain or Obama nor their vice-presidential candidates near the oval office at all. HOWEVER, I am not going to claim to know the mind of Palin. I am not going to make futuristic predictions about her. If you want to find out anything negative about her you will. If you want to find out anything positive about her you will. You will normally find what you are looking for.

I think that it is naive to believe she is a "blank slate". Her mind is not blank. It is filled up with all kinds of political ideas; ideas she has absorbed throughout her career. My belief is that she is like her mentors and will continue down the path of unconstitutionalism. That is the one thing I fear the most and the one thing I know will happen regardless of who gets in the White House.

One more thing to keep in mind while trying to attack Palin's experience. She has just enough if not more experience playing the political game than Obama. And he is running for president while she is running for VICE-president. That is something to think about.

Okay this is really getting old all you know how to do is attack Palin, but you never come up with anything concreat against her. You say she has no experiance, her mind is a blank slate and she has extremest veiws. However you don't rise in politics as fast as she has plus have a 80% approval rating as Gov. And say she has a blank slate. I would like to see you accomplish what she has, mind you she has done all of this while having 5 children. She has something Obama will never have that's character. Now lets compare her with the so called great Obama. First he starts as a community organizer and what did he accomplish there or what experience did he gain? Then he goes to the state leg. Where he couldn't make up his mind and voted present 133 times. Then he goes to the senate where for 19 months of his term he has been running for president instead of doing his job which he was elected to do. He has never been in charge of anything has no executive experience. Then look at the things he is proposing 1 trillion in new spending, raiseing taxes, tuck tale and run in Iraq, he wants bankrupcy judges to be able to readjust the principal on a mortgage. Typical Obama no accountability or personal responsibility. The man is not ready to lead. They continue to try and dig dirt on Palin but cant come up with anything. As far as extreme veiws, Obama sits in a church with the extreme rev. Wright for 20 years not one or two sundays but 20 years he married them and baptized their kids you don't sit and listen for 20 years and not agree. Look at his mentor Bill Aeirs the terrorest or his finacial advisor Franklin Rains. Plus Palin has always been proud of her country. No it is a Obama presidency that would be a disaster I pray it never happens.

 Doran,

Why are you comparing Palin to Obama? If you honestly believe that Obama has no character then you are blinded by your party or your views. Plus the fact that you're throwing generalities around instead of detailed facts. Do you want me to clarify a few things? Both McCain and Obama have voted for raising taxes in their political history; this is no big secret. And Obama talks about 800 billion dollars in spending, not a trillion. Can you tell me what Obama will spend this money on Doran? Would you be so against this spending if it was going to better our schools, our military equipment, or our social security? Do you think that the government won't spend near that amount of money on a normal basis anyway? Do you even know how much the government spends on basic needs? These questions are not rhetorical either so please feel free to answer.

The Rev. Wright thing is, I'll admit, suspicious at best but blaming Obama for Rev. Wright's behavior is like blaming the child for the parent's actions. I'm not saying that Obama shouldn't take some heat for sitting there and listening to the sermons instead of walking out, but seriously...if you want to direct your hate towards someone, aim it directly at Rev. Wright instead of using Obama as a conductor.

And the whole William Ayers thing is a joke. William Ayers was a terrorist and blowing things up back when Obama was 8 years old. It wasn't like Obama was helping Ayers out. And yes, Ayers was Obama's mentor, but that doesn't mean that Obama also followed the same path Ayers did. Obama and Ayers haven't even been in contact for awhile anyway, plus the fact that there is no proof Obama has ever been involved in terrorist actions with or without Ayers.

I'm tired of people using these half-wit facts to scare others away from Obama. If you're going to state facts, why not use the entire fact instead of pulling a few words out of context to make your post sound better.
