| A Dog Should Only Eat Dog Food. |
| It's not good to give dogs human food, such as tea, juice, chocolate, sweets, and etc |

I agree. Lots of human foods will either make your dog throw up or get diarrhea. Trust me. I have
experienced it with my dog before and its not too nice to clean up. |
| |

Im generally for it, but there is some 'human' food that is ok for dogs to eat. They can eat apples,
carrots, chicken etc.
However peanuts and chocolate. BIG NO! |
| |
| |
| |
Human food is called human food for a reason
Dog food is called dog food for a reason
Why would Tesco put dog food on the can if it wasn't meant for dogs and not "chunks of rabbit with
chunks of beef in a big gravy topping." |

It is generally not a good idea to feed dogs food that is not formulated with their specific dietary
needs included. There are foods that are highly toxic to dogs. Beyond those foods, there are other
dietary factors involved. First, most dogs cannot tolerate drastic changes in their diet. While we
feel it might be boring to eat the same thing every single day, it is healthier for your dog to
remain on a high quality dog food and to make any dietary changes gradually by adding small portions
of a new food to the old until the transition is completed over a period of a week to ten days.
Allowing a dog to have some human food as a treat is usually ok, but if the dog becomes accustomed
to human food, it is difficult making them go back to their dog food and requires the poor dog to
refuse food until s/he is hungry enough to eat the dog food again. Obesity in dogs has the same
effect as it does on humans. It shortens their life span, makes them more prone to joint issues
(ie. Hip dysplasia and others), increases the chances of diabetes and can cause skin conditions that
are expensive and difficult to treat. In the time I spent working in an animal hospital, I saw many
dogs that were grossly overweight. At first, the owners would deny feeding table scraps, but when
pressed by the vet, they would generally admit to feeling badly eating in front of their pet and
felt the need to indulge the dog and feed them their table scraps. I honestly do not understand
enough about the progress in veterinary medicine over the years that would explain why, as a child,
I do not recall much about the vet insisting my dog to eat only dog food, but I do know that much
research has gone into producing a huge variety of dog foods for many specific needs of different
dogs. There are even prescription dog foods that, until I saw the results, I thought were basically
a joke.
As death pointed out on the other side of this debate, there are times when it is suggested that
dogs with an illness be fed some human food. This generally consists of a very bland diet to stop
stomach upset and diarrhea. Rice and boiled chicken...that's the diet for stomach upset. Also,
with the proper nutritional supplements, it is fine to prepare your own food for your pet. This
would mean research into what foods are easily digested and healthy, balanced nutrition with low
sodium content. It isn't all that easy. My sister tried it for a while with her dog and it did not
last nearly as long as she had believed when she started the diet. It involved cooking specifically
for the dog and not simply giving him food that was prepared for the rest of the family.
I think that people, myself included, love their pets so much and view them as the part of the
family that they are truly meant to be, but in doing so fail to take into account that they do have
very different digestive systems and metabolisms than we do. In addition, to have a well behaved
pet that is welcome around all who come in contact with our pets, encouraging begging and other
undesirable behavior by feeding them from the table is not teaching the dog the natural pack
mentality that they truly need and feel most comfortable with. |

I agree because some human food example chocolate is bad for dogs and can make them ill
The same goes for cats really my mam feeds him human food which could make him ill |
| |
| |
| |
Yes they should no there place and eat what they are supposed to eat .
Every now and then don't hurt though |
| |
| |
| |

Human food should not be consumed by dogs. Dogs should eat dog food, seeing as it was meant for
them. |
| |
| |
| |
Most human food hurts them.
I'm for the whole dog food thing. |
| |
| |
| |
Some dog ate other food and they die |
| |
| |
| |
I agree b/c certain human food kills dogs like chocolate |
| |
| |
| |
It's much healthier for the dog, for sure. My girlfriend and I both sometimes give our dogs table
scraps and now they beg every time we eat, which can really be frustrating. |
| |
| |
| |
They should eat dog food regularly and a treat every once in a while. |
| |
| |
| |
Of cause,Dog food is meant for dogs, |
| |
| |
| |

According to my point of view, a dog should be allowed to have the foods of its own choice. It means
that the dog must eat dog’s food. I prefer life to be driven in its own domain and every life be
it of a human being or a dog is concerned should be kept its individuality in order to keep the
equilibrium of the earth in its proper position. The food habit of a dog should not be changed as it
may cause harm to the creature. The proper dog food for a dog would make the dog properly fit and
perfect. It has been watched that people use to make their dogs to be eaten the people food instead
of its own dog food. But this is not at all a very good way to make our own wish’s weight to the
shoulder of our beloved dogs. |
| |
| |
| |
Dogs should really never be given people food. The reason for that is because some of the things
people eat are very toxic to dogs and cats. They can also get way over weight especially if they are
inside pets. Look the information up on the internet if you don't believe me. |
| |
| |
| |
Dogs should only be given raw meat with the bones still in. Mine love it and will starve themselves
when offered official dog food, tinned ground up fishy smelling goop with pasta and veggies or
bagged reconstituted chunks of who knows what. |
| |
| |
| |
I agree. Dogs can eat a little human foods but not all human food. You should not give your dog
fatty or fattening foods because his metabolism is different from a human being. You can give your
dog vegetables such as green beans. You can say that we should not give dog human food and
shouldn’t give him the following things;
• Onions
• Added salt
• Nitrates
• Mono-sodium glutamate
• Chocolate or candy of any kind.
Raisins or grapes
Fruit seeds/pits, and most tree nuts
• Turkey fat/skin can be devastating and it causes pancreas disease.
No cooked bones
No corn or soy
• No fresh milk products |
| |
| |
| |
Of course. I don't understand how people can give sweets to a dog! (or tea??, are you sure about
this?) |
| |
| |
| |
No because dogs need fiber and some of the fiber is not in dog food |
| |
| |
| |
Actually a dog who lives on 'human' food is actually eating a natural diet. Dogs who live on greasy
table scraps aren't eating properly but dogs who are getting fresh meat, cheese, bread and other
foods will often live longer then dogs on canned food or kibble. But treats for us like cake,
brownies, sandwhiches, ice cream shouldn't be given to dogs because it can be poisonous, but that is
the only way I agree with you. |
| |
| |
| |
Feeding your pet the odd bit of "people food" is a nice way to shake things up a bit. My cats love
getting tuna once in a while. Just don't make it regular. |
| |
| |
| |
Just like anything else if done with consideration and moderation it doesn't have to be a problem.
In fact my 18 year old dog that you see in my little pic there has been fed human food that we
specially prepare for him for the last two years which is probably why he is still alive. |
| |
| |
| |
This question is far too relative to be answered for sure. For one there are foods that cause a dog
harm, chocolate seems to be the most well known, but there are also foods that are healthy for the
dog and a great treat for them, jerkies and various meats and a few vegetables to my knowledge.
There's no one who can dictate what you can feed your dog but yourself so feed him or her what you
like, just be ready for the consequences. |
| |
| |
| |
It's okay for them to eat meats and some veggies. It is in their food why not just give it to
them?? Btw dog food is made by humans before dog food dogs used to eat scraps of food |
| |
| |
| |
They can eat anything they want! |
| |
| |
| |
While it is ill-advised to feed your dog specific foods which are toxic to them (chocolate, onion,
garlic...) some people do prefer to prepare home-made diets for their dogs, and they should be
educated so that they are feeding their pet a diet which is nutritionally balanced for their
species. |
| |
| |
| |
Do you want to eat the same thing day in and day out? |
| |
| |
| |
Up until about 60 years ago there was no "dog food". Pets ate leftovers. No, they shouldn't eat
everything that humans do but much of it is quite wholesome. |
| |
| |
| |
Will that be fair to the dogs well you are eating food that they probably like???? |
| |
| |
| |
Someone who acts like a dog could eat dog food, technically.....lol
besides, aren't cheetos and pepsi as unhealthy as puppy-chow?
Some foods meant for canines may be MORE healthy lol lol |
| |
| |
| |
So my question is this. WHO MAKES DOG FOOD? Humans do. And, by the way, what did they eat before
ALPO and PURINA came along. I'm just saying, if I make up a batch of chicken and brussel sprouts
for dinner, what makes it wrong for my dog to eat it. I gave my dog some of that exact thing for
dinner one nite and he fished out the brussel sprouts and ate them first. (steamed by the way, no
seasoning) A lot of the things we eat aren't so healthy for us either, but we do anyway. Who wants
to eat the same thing over and over again? |
| |
| |
| |
No! Just cuz its a dog doesn't mean its just a pet they are like us we are animals too give it
pampering |
| |
| |
| |
Come on, you wouldn't only want to eat tacos every day, never eating anything else, would ya? Of
course not! Neither do dogs! |
| |
| |
| |
I had a yorkie who had terrible seizures and the vet suggested giving her gatorade to keep her
hydrated. Yes, some human foods ARE bad for dogs and cats, but not all. I'm not gonna go out and
buy my pups a pound bag of Dove dark chocolates anytime in the foreseeable future, but I see nothing
wrong with them getting a hotdog or a quarter slice of cheese every once in awhile, as long as its
not overdone. And I have to keep our malamute away from pickles. He stole the ends of one from me
and he loves the darn things, but I know they probably aren't the best thing for him.:) |
| |
| |
| |
If a dog eat human food it also makes them stronger and its good to them also |
| |
| |
| |
Store bought dog food is mostly corn or rice. It's barely even safe for them. Dogs and humans have
a very similar diet in nature. They were so easy to domesticate because we made such good allies as
hunters.
I take partial offense to the examples you gave of "tea, juice, chocolate, sweets" because we all
know that sweets aren't even good for us. Juice isn't all that great with high concentrations of
fructose and stripped of fiber, chocolate is only good in moderation (we already know it's poisonous
to dogs) and tea. I don't have a problem with tea but the others were excessively obvious. |
| |
| |
| |
Pet food is like McDonald's for animals. It is bad for them, just like McDonald's is for us. They
are meant to eat raw meat (cats and dogs). However, I don't practice what I preach because I have
only recently learned this and still looking into it. The rest of your debate I totally agree with
- Human food is worse - cooked bones are especially bad. |
| |
| |
| |
Actually, dogs were and still are designed to hunt prey and devour meat. Dogs are carnivores, and
the only reason we give them dogfood is to keep them from starving and trying to eat other animals.
Heck, even dogfood has meat products in it. Besides, in most cases regular food is better for dogs. |
| |
| |
| |
God did not design them just to do this |
| |
| |

We used to have a border collie x kelpie and blue heeler. She was called Mate sadly she got put down
cause of old age. We used to feed her everything including chocolate pizza chips sausages ice cream
and heaps more if your thinking oh my god that would kill a dog feeding it all that will it didn't
she lived till she was 18 years old so i'm totally against this debate i think dogs can eat what
they want or like |
| |
| |
| |
I completely disagree with this there are certain foods a dog cannot eat because it will make them
sick/can kill them. Examples would be chocolate/grapes/unripe tomatoes etc... Have you seriously
taken a look at what is in some dog foods? A lot of it is unhealthier than your average table
scrap. Granted you do need to watch what you give your dog making sure they still have a balanced
diet. I would not say they should not be given real food in anyway. |
| |
| |
| |
Yeah my dogs eat people food all the time!! And they are just fine and they are healthy |
| |
| |
| |
I disagree. Dogs can eat certain human food. |
| |
| |
| |
I give mine just a tiny bit of table scraps all the time so it's no big deal to me |
| |
| |
| |
No,they should have some good food. |
| |
| |
| |
Dogs need a little human food every once in a while just in case they got into the trash and ate the
things in it they would get sick |
| |
| |
| |
No a dog should eat gourmet food too! |
| |
| |
| |
I used to think so until I got my own dog. He pretty much gets whatever he wants with the exception
of chocolate. I had a dog who lived a VERY long time and he lived off of table scrapes AND dog food
for a very long time and I see nothing wrong with feeding it to him considering the fact that he
lived so long (before getting hit by a car with a speeding driver). |
| |
| |
| |
The dogs could eat some human food so you don't waste money to buy dog food |
| |
| |
| |
My aunt is a vet and when my dogs sick, she suggests chicken and rice to calm his stomach. Don't
tell people what to do with their animals, it's not your business. |
| |
| |
| |
It's not good to give dogs human foods such as sweets and especially chocolate as chocolate is very
bad for dogs and can kill them.
Dogs can eat chicken, fish and other health foods but the food that is bad for humans is bad for
dogs too.
Vegetables won't hurt the dog either.
It is argued that domestic dogs shouldn't be given bones as they aren't used to eating bones anymore
and vets see many cases where dogs have got into terrible difficulties through eating bones.
Some dogs don't do well on standard dog foods and some foods such as chicken and fish can be a bonus
for them.
Dried foods for dogs aren't always good for them either if given on their own.
As long as owners are sensible and give healthy 'human 'foods in sensible amounts then dogs should
be fine with these. |
| |
| |
| |
I disagree here. Dogs can be given human food because there are many things which are included in
dog food and us human beings also eat them. Milk is the best example.
Moreover, sometimes if you're dog is ill, serving them human food can solve the problem.
So, I think everything can be given which can be digested. |
