A Child Friendly Book About Child Abuse From The Age Of 3 Upwards Is A Good Thing Or A Bad Thing.

With increased numbers of child abuse I think its a good idea, what do you favour??

I agree, wether the parents want to read the book for themselves to find a child friendly way of teaching kids the dangers or actually reading the book with the child. I do think it would help alot.

Kids need to know what could be coming for them.

The earlier you know something, the quicker you can put in an action plan to prevent it.

So, if they're taught about child abuse at a young age, then they won't do it or put themselves in a position where they can get harmed.

Child abuse is unnatural and exposing something like that to kids so they can have a 'normal' understanding is a completely ridiculous notion.

I question such things as I age. I never was exposed to bad things on purpose until I was ready for it.

Even very well informed children can be overwhelmed and what they have learned sidelined by abuse. Child friendly books on abuse may wind up making children feel doubly guilty should it happen to them. These books put enormous responsibility to resist on their tiny shoulders or use up their precious childhood hours in terrified readiness..

A hidden camera was placed in a schoolroom where kids were informed of the dangers of guns. They were told if they see a gun, not to touch it but to inform a teacher. A real, full size gun had beforehand been placed behind a book on the teachers desk. The teacher left the room. The kids saw the gun and said, "Is this a real gun?" They picked it up and handled it in a way that if it had been loaded, some kid might have been shot. Not one thought it was real enough to leave it alone or inform a teacher

This shows that kids are too young to handle abuse or danger and may not recognize it when it happens to them, regardless of how many times they are taught.

I say leave the kids alone and put the full responsibility on adults. I don't think a kid's book about abuse is going to help them avoid it or even recognize it..

good story. lol

I've rescently talked to a father that got this book for his two kids, its not gruesome or scary at all. Someone must have thought it was a good idea. I agree with them, obviously.

Children can't do anything about child abuse, even if we gave them education and martial arts lessons! We need more awareness amongst adults, but regretfully I don't think this well intentioned act would actually achieve results.

They can do something about it being done again maybe.It could achieve children telling their parents if something happened to them outside of the home like in creches as it rescently came to light the it was happening there and none of the parents know what child it happened to.

Most children wouldn't understand child abuse, I think they should

I agree that many child abusers do use lies and manipulation to control the children they abuse, however, I do feel that there are children who do know that they were abused and didn't like what happened that are willing to go to a trusted adult IF they know that they will be protected and that there is nothing that they could have possibly done to deserve being the target of a sick adult's behavior.  If we do not educate our children to a degree where this subject is involved, we may contribute to the child's feeling that they have done something to deserve the abuse.  I personally did inform my children about the various types of abuse.  I told them about what "touches" were appropriate and which one's weren't.  I also told them that NO adult should touch them, even if it was a non-threatening type of touch, if they said no.  To me, my kids do not have to hug and kiss every remote family member who visits.  They do need to be kind and polite, but their body is their own body and they deserve to be allowed to reserve affection for those they feel comfortable giving affection (normal affection...a hug or kiss on the for a family member they love and chose to be affectionate with).  If anyone tries to force any physical touch on either of my children without their permission or despite their discomfort, my kids would come to me and they know that I may be one of the sweetest people on earth, but if they need me to intervene, all nice behavior goes right out the window.  My parents taught me that I was never to tolerate anyone making me uncomfortable and even though I respected adults, I did not need to respect someone who made me upset or uncomfortable.  A neighbor of my uncle's did try to touch me and told me all about his "special club".  I kicked the man where it hurt and ran right to my parents.  I value the fact that my parents were honest that not all people are good and that they told me that no one should act in an inappropriate manner with me from a very young age.  That man ended up in jail after many children had been abused and had their innocence stolen from them.  I'm certainly glad that I was not on that list, but I felt terrible for the kids who did not have the knowledge of "good touch/bad touch" to be able to discern that what he was doing was bad.  I wanted to instill these lessons in my girls very early in life.  Yes, there is a chance that they would still not feel comfortable going to someone, but there is a better chance that they would because they know that I will support them 100% should they ever come to me and report such a thing.  They are both very strong girls who are leaders and not followers.  They have a strong sense of right and wrong and have no problem telling others when they feel that they are behaving in a manner that is not what they are comfortable with.  I'm proud of them and I am thankful that I did teach them these lessons at a young age.  Far too many children do not know what is being done to them is so very wrong and they feel ashamed and guilty as if they had "asked" for it because of the fact that abusers are liars and manipulative.  I think parents have to be a bit proactive and make every effort to give their children the tools to handle many difficult situations.  Without these tools that allow children to determine whether something is or isn't right, the child is far too vulnerable.  If scaring them a bit prevents them being abused or abducted, I think it is well worth it.  There are far too many people who prey on the innocent and someone must stop them before it's too late.
