911 Emergency Call Recordings Should NOT Be Public Records Available For Immediate Release And Play On The News
It astonishes me that the voice recordings of people scared and desperate for help (from fires, from attackers, for medical emergencies, etc) have their most private moment aired on the evening news. How does this happen? And why? What right do we have to hear a 5 year old girl saying mommy is sleeping in a pool of blood? If you call a non-911 help number, like the police station directly, THAT call is private from the news, so why is a call to the emergency line public access? Why make people reluctant to call?

The news gains too much access to private things. It always kills me when they give away police plans to nab a criminal. I watch thinking, "Way to go idiots...give the criminals a heads up!"

911 calls should not make calls available for the reasons that grenache said in the comments. If they want the 911 call released then they should ask for the callers consent. If they dont get consent then they should censor the name and alter the voice (like changing the voices to sound deep and low pitched or some other changing of voice)

Why should people giver a flying f uck whether they're being recorded at any time at all unless they have something to hide?
