Every secondary school I've come across has had a compulsory 2 hours of PE a week anyway. I think
this would be enough as it is. But I also think kids who really don't want to do it shouldn't be
forced. I hated having to take part in PE, but only because they made me wear a PE kit, which
wouldn't be so bad if it hadn't included shorts. Also, all the PE teachers I had never participated
themselves, which I found hypocritical and therefore gained no respect from me whatsoever. If the
students should do it, so should the teachers, or they are not doing their job properly. |

In most schools they get at least 2 hours of PE a week, and the kids themselves should be getting
into afterschool/out-of-school activities. As far as I see it the system is fine in this respect.
Although I get the impression that alot of these guys that have gone with against, despised PE
probly because you were/still are porky little kids that couldn't do sports.. You all seem to have a
very blunt very of PE. |

1 hour is more than enough. Frankly, I don't think we need Physical Education at all.
"But FinalBoss, children are getting too fat and unhealthy!"
So maybe parents should make their kids play outside. Maybe school should be an hour shorter so kids
might be more inclined to play outside. Kids don't need schools to watch out for their health. Where
are the parents?
Not to mention all the time that is sucked up by PE. 1 hour almost every day of every year? You
could take 4 full year courses in that time, or 8 half year courses. You could STILL get your daily
exercise in if you or your parents really care. |

I disagree.
There seems to be this belief among society that to get healthier children they should do more
running around in school - this i can't disagree with - if i run 80 miles I'd lose more than if i
ran 1 (though from where I'm not sure).
I was fat in school - like 228lbs fat - i now weigh 137lbs. This i achieved myself without some
odious gym teacher shouting at everyone who can't climb a rope or play tennis well.
Physical education has stopped becoming education.
If the gym teachers took the kids to a gym and said "We need need to do cardio first - for this this
and this reason" then I might have been more interested. Playing sports without any reason apart
from the athletic boys to have a bit of fun is pointless in my mind.
If I'd been taught about metabolism, and healthy diet, and how to target parts of my body, i might
very well have gotten to the weight I am now all those years ago. |

No, No, No, Many already take extra curricular activities and some just hate it.
It should be an option for those interested in that sort of thing. Kids should figure out what they
like, not what they ALREADY know they hate. And admit it:
PE is more of a blow off class in secondary school, anyway, |

It's just fine.
You don't want to kill them.
Some do sports after school. |

My school does 3 50 minute sessions a week minus 15 minutes for changing and that's 1hour and 40ish
minutes. By the time we've done games were all out of energy and we can't be bothered, i suppose, to
concentrate. I suppose its like after lunch, people have had a run around or played football and
can't be bothered, plus more than an hour it very exhausting for a 11-16 year old.
Although, maybe P.e is good because a pupil will discover something he/she likes, whether that be
rugby, tennis, gym, aerobics... Etc and will take it on after school. Thus the next generations
will be, technically, fitter and healthier |

1 hour of physical education is enough in Secondary School as a child goes to school to acquire
knowledge and prepare for his future career and not for body building. If more than one hour is
allotted for physical education then the child will be so exhausted that he won’t be able to pay
attention in the class and this will hamper his learning and understanding of the major subjects
which are more vital for him in preparing himself for his future career. Physical Education is kept
in the schools as it is the motto of all educational institutions that a child should get the
opportunity for holistic development, physical education period is also a source of providing relief
from the monotony of continuously sitting in the class room for 5 to 6 hours. It helps the child to
absorb more as he is both physically and mentally refreshed. |

I disagree. Although I think that all students should have to take physical education, one hour per
day is plenty. I do think that students should have physical education every day, but not for longer
than one hour. In addition to gym class, Students walk around from class to class all day long. Many
play sports and other activities. Therefore, one hour of gym per day is plenty. More time needs to
be spent on other classes such as Math and English. Each of these classes need more than one hour
per day, but physical education for one hour per day is plenty of time. |

Unless u teach kids how to get fit and stay fit the purpose is defeated.
I have an idea get them on a life plan that they agree with
show the benefits of healthy living
but if your going to use physical education as a weigh to keep kids healthy I'd say that they'll be
pretty screwed after graduation |
