It Is Right That 14 Year Olds Have To Pay Adult Fares
These days, 14 year olds have to pay adult fares for things such as the cinema and buses etc. Do you think this is right?

If they can afford it. If they can't then there's paper round jobs out there, and other work. Work teaches one to become independent, and not to become reliable on others.

I think that having a 14 year old pay adult fees is perfectly fine. Today, most 14 year old want to dress and act like adults, so why not charge them like adults? They like to smoke, drink, party, and dress provocatively. They commit adult crimes. So, I strongly believe that 14 year old should have to pay adult fees to do things. They want to be treated like adults, so we should treat them like adults. Children’s fee should be for children between the ages of 1 and 12. Anyone over 12 should have to pay adult fees in today’s world. Kids are not what they used to be.

No that's unfair because the government only wants you to be mature when it's conveinent for them at 14 and 15 but you cant drink til 21 and cant smoke til18.

You shouldn't have to pay adult fares until you are legally an adult at 18.

Even then, fares for transport and such should be lower, it is just such a scam because companies can get more money no matter who they annoy

I don't understand, how come they cant vote they cant drink or smoke but if they have a job they can pay taxes and yet they have to pay adult fees for almost everything...I know i was pretty pissed about that as a 14 year old...i‘m 17 now and still bitter

No its completely unfair. I'm 14 and I'm sck of everything being so much more expensive. We aren't adults in any other sense. We cant buy drink, gamble and are forced to go to school and yet to make more money they class us as adults.

Make me pay adult fares at 16, sure. But then not give me access to the Adult-rated films?

Something's got to give.

I think that 14yrs old should not have to pay adult prices because they are not adults yet. They are not in the work force yet. Restaurants that have buffet prices should also consider that most 14yr old do not consume as much food as a full grown adult.

I disagree. 14 years old aren't eligible to jobs, benefits or any means of income. How can they afford adult fares? From parents, well change them to parent fares!!! If to smoke, to drink, to get into night clubs and watch horror movies you have to be an ADULT, and be 18, then why is is to pay for an ADULT train ticket you have to be 14??? Its a total contradiction and completely unfair.

14 year old may dress and act like 18 year old or they may not, I don't care. Until Society offers them the rights and responsibilities which are associated with the age of majority (such as voting and smoking) they should not charge them like adults.

The day 14 year old can get into 18 rated films and get into the bars in the cinema, is the day they should pay adult fares. This doesn't appear to be happening any time soon. Therefor, until we are treated like adults, we shouldn't pay prices of adults.

Absolutely not, when you are fourteen you are still a MINOR. It's illegal for a minor to smoke, drive and drink. It's true that many 14 years old want to dress and act like adults, but that is how ALL kids are... Not just 14 years old. And yes, many of these kids smoke and drink, BUT NOT ALL OF THEM! Why should the good kids suffer because their peers are smoking and drinking? And when you are 14, you are making minimum wage. That's not ADULT INCOME, and adults who are making minimum wage usually had there chance to make something of themselves. Not just 14 years old smoke and drink, it goes a little younger then that. Sure, many of them commit adult crimes but that's a different thing all together. It's not really an ADULT crime, it's just a crime that was usually committed by adults. But it's also a crime to smoke tobacco and drink (for minors.) THATS NOT AN ADULT CRIME. If you want to treat them like adults, then treat them LIKE ADULTS, lower the legal age. They only reason they are considered adults and are required to pay adult fares is because ADULT FARS COST MORE MONEY. So, if they can get away with charging adult fees to children then they will do it. ADULT FARES ARE FOR ADULTS.

I don't think this is right because consequently the government in this country has decided that someone isn't considered an adult until they reach 18 years of age. Therefore, surely i am right in thinking that things such as fares shouldn't be upped to adult price until that person reaches 18 years of age?

I believe that if I'm going to pay as an adult then they should have to give me all the same rights as an adult, therefore make me and adult. Either lower the prices or lower the legal age of adults.

No it is ridicules... We are regarded as adults to pay but we get none of the responsibilities that come with adulthood until you are 18!!! It is so unfair

No! How are we supposed to get the money to pay for stuff like that? Adult fares should be given to people who can legally have a job, and nothing more!

No its not right at all. If people keep telling you that you have boundaries because you are still not an "adult" but you have to pay a fare to be one that's messed up

If we can't have a licence, then why should we pay the same as older people who can?
We aren't really adults yet, we're still kids, even if some of us act older.
We can't even see an 'r' rated movie without an adult, so why should we pay the same?!!!

I believe that the age for paying adult fares for these things should be at least 16. Definitely by 18, as that's the adult age in many countries.

If a 14 years old isn't legally classed as an adult, then they should not be charged as adults.

I do not agree that the 14 years old have to pay adult fares. Why should they do this? In the course of life, they are said to be non-adult in every aspects but in the case of giving fare to their bus journey and movie tickets they should be given the fares like adults. This is not at all acceptable only because this is not justified at all. In the age of 14 years, a boy or a girl do not make his or her own income. They have to be dependant on their parents’ income. They are better being known as the students and thus they should not be asked the same amount of fare what an adult pays. This is very much clear that why should they have to pay adult fares when they do not get any other privileges what the adults get?

Agreed, it is not fair.

There are child prices for 12 and under on menus, movie tickets, amusement park tickets, etc. And then there are adult prices. But very few jobs hire kids under 16, so the 13,14, and 15 year olds are left uncategorized. They are forced to try to scrounge up money from their parents or get it in other means.

And furthermore, it doesn't seem fair that they would pay adult rates for movies and not even be permitted to see adult movies that are rated R? Something is seriously twisted with that. There definitely should be 3 sets of pricing.

14 year olds don't normally have an income, and they aren't adult citizens yet. As far as I'm considered, I don't think we should be charged adult prices when we don't have other adult privalleges- like voting and drinking.
